If anyone didn't get the vinyl, I just copped the Lulu ALC Edition vinyl from www.alcrecords.com (black vinyl pre-order is still up if you want it) and they have a banner up saying Alfredo ALC Edition Coming Soon. So if anyone missed out on the Alfredo vinyl there will be a pre-order up on the basic black vinyl. Alternate cover and instrumentals will be on the upcoming vinyl. I'll keep the thread updated.

:leon: at this getting nominated for a Grammy. I'm assuming the committee realized they fukked up by not nominating Bandana and wanted to make it up this year.

It's always fukk the Grammy's here on TheColi, but I'm happy for the boost it'll help give Freddie. I think this might be his first Grammy nomination?

Edit: And Alc too actually. Alc does have a couple Grammy's but just for albums that won that he produced looses for. This album has co-billing, and he's never been nominated for anything he's fully produced before.

Nominees are:
Alfredo - Freddie Gibbs, Alchemist
Black Habits - D Smoke
A Written Testimony - Jay Electronica & Jay-Z
King's Disease - Nas
The Allegory - Royce

@areohbee82 You heard Black Habits? I hadn't even heard of it, let alone heard it.

He actually got nominated? :gladbron:

Honestly I'm rooting for either Gibbs or Nas (more than likely he'll win) to win it. Really surprised that D Smoke was nominated though. Salute to Royce getting an nomination too!

Thank God this mf got something positive to talk about now, lol. Should be his 3rd nomination for real. The Grammy's def don't need to be tied to any clout or self-worth as an artist but it is still a huge achievement when you come from where nikkas like Gibbs come from. I felt the same way when Hussle was nominated. They both took the scenic routes to success and maintained a certain integrity of their sound and were acknowledged on what most look at as the largest scale.

Not to mention, no matter how you slice it, that Grammy nom come wit a diff ticket to what kind of bags you can get to. Big ups to Alc & Kane. Royce and Nas too. Like Nip, Fred prolly won't win this year. Dem nikkas owe Esco at that point. But it's still a good look.

Yeah, it makes a huge difference. When Phonte got nominated for the 2nd Foreign Exchange album it helped them out a lot. They were in higher demand for live touring, and could command a larger price. Same thing when 9th Wonder got the Grammy for the beat he did on the Mary J album that won. He could charge more for beats, etc.

It's just nice to be able to say you were nominated for a Grammy on your resume (for lack of a better word.)

Bandana definitely got snubbed. Last year was not nearly as dope as this year overall for the genre. So the field was weaker and Bandana to me is a little bit better than Alfredo (to me and I'd say most people), so Bandana not getting a nod was a huge snub.

And I actually think Tea in China is a better overall album, but lets' be reality. That album was never gonna get a Grammy nod. Hell, I'm still surprised this one us.

Most of the Coli hates Gibbs but he really is on a 4 album high quality, beats and bars, run :whew:
Coli has this weird shyt where they hate public figures for doing the fukkery they always say they wish public figures would do.

Same shyt with dudes like Joel Embiid on The 'Seum. They want trash talk but then when Joel does it they get mad.

I don't remember when the flip happened. After Piñata he was really high praised on here. Same with Shadow of a Doubt, 2Wice, Freddie, and Fetti.

I feel like the switch happens when someone gets a lot of consistent praise on here year after year. Because once Bandana dropped I started seeing more threads and posts about him being overhyped. I think it was a reaction in the opposite direction after that album.

I think most of the "haters" don't even listen to him and they knew him after his release from jail and twitter jokes.

Strictly rapping is very hard to hate on Gibbs.

For me he's a complete package: bars, cool deep voice, content lyrics - not only the i got hella high and i sold 3434 keys after killing 2134 people, and the ear for beats is on another level.

Oh and @iseetrolledpeople I'd go a step farther than 4 album run. I don't think he's had a miss since Piñata.

  • Piñata = modern classic. 4.75 mics.
  • Shadow of a Doubt = dope mix of sample-based and trap production. Well rounded. Close to 4 mics, give or take a couple points.
  • Only Live 2wice = Solid 4 mics. very personal. Heavy subject matter and content.
  • Freddie = Most trap production and very cleanly done. Lot of versatility and humor. Some fire re-flips of classic samples. Almost 4 mics, give or take.
  • Fetti = Incredible collaboration album. Two very different emcees over a common producer they both work with. Peanu butter and jelly. Solid 4 mics. Also if anyone doesn't want to count it because it's a joint album, Freddie has 2 solo joints, more verses, and more hooks. It counts.
  • Bandana = I think Piñata is better but I know I'm in the minority. Majority rules. If Piñata is a modern classic, then Bandana sure as hell is.
  • Alfredo = Just a notch below Piñata and Bandana IMO, but it's right up there.
That's 7 albums of fire from 2014 to now. :leon:
