Even though I'm on the other side of the fence in regards to Benny. I can respect this. @Chip Skylark this is what im talking about breh, there is no ducking :beli:. Especially when you listen to BOTH artists efficiently, which isnt the case with some of the brothas in this thread (having an agenda against gibbs)
No agenda bruv… I listen to both .

and I’m not doing homie homework to provide proof… I’m sorry

if u think Benny don’t have hot lines then that’s cool

both them nikkaz make dope music I just think Benny is better

my opinion not facts

I’m a fan of both. I’ve seen Gibbs perform live. He’s a monster. Benny’s grind to where he is now has been dope to witness. That said, this would be a great battle if they keep it on record and don’t let the streets turn it into something else.

This thread is an absolute mess on all sides. As an huge fan of Griselda and Gibbs I'm just gonna throw in my take.

I think in a battle either on person or on was, Benny wins. Benny is more of a conventional hard hitting rapper with witty bars and punchlines.

I think Gibbs is a more versatile artist. It's pretty hard to argue unless you're A: arguing in bad faith, or B: already have your mind made up and aren't being open minded.

I wish it were the other way too, because I've grown to basically despise Gibbs in everything he does outside of rapping. But it's hard to deny that the man has rhymed on every type of production imaginable and done it flawlessly. 808s and trap beats. Off-kilter Madlib beats. Abstract Alchemist beats. West coast bounce Cardo beats. Old school Souls of Mischief boom bap beats. Gibbs has written about a lot of different topics and subject matter. To be fair to his critics...most of it was before he blew up with Bandana in 2019. But he's got a ton of content. He has devolved a little bit as an emcee into at times using a little more style over substance.

Now...everything I just said doesn't even mean that Gibbs is the better rapper. A lot of it is the shyt you value. All of that said, nothing wrong with liking Benny more or even saying that Benny is the better rapper.

This thread got nikkas saying Freddie Gibbs is all flow and talks about nothing :skip:

I fukks with both but I dare somebody to list these Benny songs where he talks about anything other than referencing selling drugs and going to the feds

You can literally do that for Gibbs with ease
Just to play Devil's Advocate...here's a couple. But yeah, Benny expanding his subject matter is one of the things I've been wanting him to do more and more. Here's a couple good ones though.

I would add the 2 songs he did with Russ in there too.

But that proves my point. Anything regarding content goes to Freddie Gibbs with ease. Benny in my top 3 right now but he's very limited

Conway is the most introspective out of Griselda just look at shyt like this

Benny was on some introspective shyt than Con was like "hold my beer" :skip:
To be fair no one in the game right now can do the introspective rap better than Conway. He's on some Scarface/Sigel in their prime shyt right now. Stress, God Don't Make Mistakes, Guilty, So Much More, Wilshire, Moments, Spoon's House, Forever Ago, Proud of Me...he's got that lane on lock.

I actually miss when Gibbs did more of it. He seems to hit people with a couple per project now. Practice and Soul Right on Bandana. Skinny Suge and Daddy Loves You on Alfredo.

But he used to drop so much of that shyt. All this was on one project. Storytelling shyt and painting pictures for days. I miss Freddie doing this shyt. :wow:

As far as varied content. Gibbs is much more well rounded than Benny.

I like both.

I would have agreed with this x years ago, but shortly after getting out of jail Gibbs went so far right with the performative gangster rap shyt that he's becoming a caricature to me. He still makes good music, I still listen to Alfredo etc. But overall the content just isn't there like it was on his earlier stuff to me. I also feel like even before jail his flow started getting sloppy and slurring together. IMO it started on Shadow Of A Doubt, so 2015.

That last track on You Only Live 2wice, Homesick, felt like the end of the real Gibbs. The vulnerability on that track, the dedication to his baby mama, the phone call from his uncle, etc. After that breh lost his family fukking with strippers and went full blown "super nikka to impress the white boys" IMO. That's not to say he hasn't done personal tracks since then. But there's a clear difference to me now.

More eloquently stated than how I've said it, but I'm not mad at this take at all. You specifically out of everyone on this board got me to shift how I looked at Gibbs a little bit, in terms of him sort of behaving like a caricature of a bunch of gangster/thug/pimp rap stereotypes as a part of his image and his brand. I still check for his music, but it's been disappointing to see him devolving as an artist. You Only Live 2wice was a crazy album. One of my favorite introspective albums ever, and then after that....yeah...we've gotten a few songs like Practice and Skinny Suge, but overall not all that much. He used to do those types of songs all the time.

It's crazy too because you'd think his experience almost losing his life in prison overseas would've calmed him down and made him think more about his family and shyt. But it's like after documenting the experience on Only Live 2wice he went in the opposite direction and started wilding out even more. I feel like dude's kind of having a midlife crisis in the social media era for everyone to see.

Just to pay homage...I want this Gibbs back.
