THIS is what I was trying to tell this nikka @Piff Perkins and he was trying to tell me I didn’t know about Gibbs. Being disingenuous as fukk. ANYONE who fukked wit Gibbs knows his status elevated after Scottie Pippen. There’s literally no debating it.

I never denied it was a big verse and gave him some new looks. But the biggest thing in Gibbs' career that took him to the next level was Thuggin. That's just a fact. That Madlib connection was more important then than Alchemist.

The entire crux of this thread is that somehow Gibbs owes something to Spitta/Alch which isn't true. I already laid the facts out lol. Daps to Spitta. Daps to Alch. Daps to Gibbs.

No. I never said he owed anything to Spitta but being a man about shyt and not a girl. And yes. Spitta gave him a HUGE boost and u the only one in here denying it. Spitta Alc/Madlib is why he’s where he’s at now. Critically acclaimed verse and widened fanbase = Spitta/Alch. Critically acclaimed album = Madlib. Grammy nominated album = Alch. 1+1+1 = 3 my nikka. It is what it is.

Sound sound sound
Currensy enjoys making music..not the business

which is why he puts out projects..let’s people know it’s out..and 2 days later he’s working on another project, or playing with toy cars..with no mention of the album that came out last week

He’s comfortable in his space, audience, and the income he gets off his formula…he’s not really trying to prove to anybody how great he is..Gibbs is dying for recognition IMO

If Gibbs didn’t pick up on that..that’s his problem

That would make more sense if Curren$y wasn’t notoriously known for doing this shyt with most of his projects. He was always good with leading up promotion but not follow thru promotion. After the album drops. He just leaves it alone.
I never really thought about it but you're right. I don't ever remember Currensy doing much with any of his projects besides dropping them. There may be an occasional video here or there, but usually not many, and he never hit the podcast or radio circuit too hard. In fact, this may sound real stupid...:patrice:but even though I have a crazy long Spiita playlist, and have supported multiple projects of his by buying the vinyls...I'm not actually sure if he even has an album album?

I know some of his mixtapes have been elevated by fans (including myself) into EP or album territory, but I don't know if I've ever heard Spitta himself call anything he's made anything other than a mixtape or a project.

@spliz I love you and @Piff Perkins both, :dame: but I kinda see what he means. I remember the Thuggin' single with Deep as the B-Side was was a really big deal. The Thuggin' video was pretty huge too. Most of the hype around Pinata was based on that Thuggin' record, and that shyt literally held people like myself over for years while we waited for Bandana.

At that point, I really don't think Al had quite the clout on the indie scene that he has right now. I think it's easy to look back and think Al was as big as he is now on the underground scene, because he's basically working with the same people and hasn't made any drastic alterations. But Madvillainy wasn't even 10 years old yet, and Madlib had a ton of clout.

I think I'll split the difference between you and Perkins, and say that I think Scottie Pippens introduced Gibbs to a lot of people and made them go:whoo: :damn::whew:, but Thuggin' is what had people salivating for that album. :lupe::noah::feedme:

He liked Alfredo and fukked with the Boldy James album if I remember correctly so I assume he’s got an issue with Spitta. Or it’s some label shyt.
This is definitely true. I remeber Joe Budden being a massive fan of Tea in China and Alfredo last year. Lulu too.

On Tea in China I remember they played Carruth (the 1st song) on the podcast and Joe was breaking it down and seemed pretty blown away. And when they played Alfredo on the podcast, Joe stopped the record to call Gibbs in the middle of it. And Joe insinuated that he'd be happy to start rapping again if he could do a project with Al. Currensy is the only party involved with Fetti that Joe would likely have any type of issue with, although I have no clue why.

Also, great ear on Gutter Watter with Oh No (one of your previous posts here.) That was kind of the beginning of his Covert Coup/psychedelic sound. Some of the beats Al did on Gutter Water would've been right at home on Covert Coup. Covert Coup dropped April 2011, and 2009/2010 is when Al started:

A: hanging out with Oh No and Madlib
B: moving beyond weed and experimenting with psychedelics
C: falling in love with Marcberg by Roc Marci

Those 3 things were the major catalysts for him experimenting with his production style into more of what we hear now, and the beginnings of that sound would show up first on Gutter Water, Covert Coup, and Greneberg.

The bolded is something I never considered. Definitely possible, but honestly I think Currensy was just being a little lazy. I wish I knew where the interview was, but he spoke on it in 2020 and said the whole situation made him want to promote stuff more, and I wanna say he did a video for every single song on the OutRunners EP he did that year.
Nah Curren$y was actually promo'in Fetti on Instagram before it was done saying that Gibbs was the one procrastinating to get his verses in. He even showed video of him laying the verse down for The Blow (I specifically remember that "Federal photographers" line). He was keeping everyone updated trying to put it out.

I meant that I thought Currensy was being lazy after it was finished, but you're definitely right on the verses part. Here's a video, and it might be the one you mentioned. It seemed like Currensy finished his stuff before Gibbs did. This video dropped less than 4 weeks out from Fetti. They show him making Bundy Sincere, The Blow, New Thangs, etc.

Pilot Talk 1-3 are albums. And Stoned Immaculate is a major label album.

Like I said before. Curren$y has always been good a lead up promotion. Not follow up. This is how he operates. Aka Gibbs was being a bytch about shyt,

That’s it. But like I said earlier Currensy doesn’t really promote his own projects unless it’s a Warner one and he don’t even like doing those promo runs. His philosophy has always been if the shyt is dope it will sell itself. Just Enjoy The shyt (JETS)
