Never heard a bad word about Franco. A true legend. Even though the Steelers fell a week later againt Miami, the Immaculate Reception served notice that Pittsburgh were no longer going to be the lovable losers. They were here and had to be reckoned with. 2 years later started the dynasty that set the standard for which every Steeler team after strives to live up to.

R.I.P Franco. Thanks for everything:mjcry:

His pops wifed up an Italian broad while stationed in Italy.
Never knew this... and its funny because I google everything. I guess because I dont see him. He was basically a Pittsburgh staple outside of the occasional remembrance of the catch. Great player..

Interesting fact I saw about the catch.. In those days if, you fell with the ball without contact you were considered down like in college. He said he had to make sure when he bent over to catch that ball, that he didnt fall over due to the momentum...

Yeah Franco was always doing something. He was just on a local News/Entertainment show yesterday talking about the Immaculate Reception, the festivities for this weekend, etc. Looked to be in good health and everything. Now he's gone:mjcry:

I dunno why I thought steelers had so many retired numbers only to find out he would just be the third to have that honor :wow:

Those are officially retired. They have some more that are unofficially retired like Bradshaw, Mike Webster, Blount, etc

Yet they do Lynn Swann and Stallworth dirty issuing those numbers to every Tom dikk and Harry

I always had a problem with them giving out 82 and 88
