Fox is delaying their version of Luther; Considered Marlon Wayans for the role

Fox is hitting pause on its Luther adaptation.

The network has opted to push the cast-contingent drama out of the busy pilot season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The network originally picked up the drama — a remake of BBC's Emmy-nominated, Idris Elba starrer from creator Neil Cross — in November, handing out a rich put-pilot commitment. That was followed in January with a cast-contingent pilot pickup.

Given the overwhelming demand for leads — sources tell THR that Fox was out briefly to get Marlon Wayans to star — the network will wait until the crush of pilot season is over before resuming its search for a leading man. Diverse leads have been in particularly high demand this pilot season as the broadcast networks look to build upon the success of hits including Empire and How to Get Away With Murder.

It is cool that they are waiting till they can be the only show in town casting a black lead and it is even cooler that Empire and HTGAWM has made the demand for black leads so strong.

But what the fukk were they smoking even considering Marlon Wayans for the role of John Luther?

been meaning to watch this shyt for so long i gotta finally catch up. i KNOW an American remake is going to be complete shyt. i picture it being in the vein of Life On Mars or when they tried to remake Red Dwarf, you can do it word for word & shot for shot but it just doesn't translate and they always have to change cultural things so the jokes don't translate.

I know what you beat, but I have the sneaking suspicion that Marlon Wayans would have done well.

I haven't watched stuff like Requiem, but something about watching Marlon all these years tells me given the right prompting, and toning down, Marlon could do grouchy, short-tempered and troubled very well.
