realistically if they're going to work on the project anyway, they should air the BBC series in the US in the quicker, legnthier fashion US shows work, and have a new season ready when those have aired

It's already in the universe. I'm pretty sure everyone knows FOX isn't gonna put a black male lead romantically involved with a white female. Only show I can think of did that was Day Break and that was on ABC. A race lift is almost guaranteed here and if a black lead is cast then the romance will be deaded

Luther aired in the US on BBC America, that's where I watched the first couple of seasons. What really made the show stand out was the performances by Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson. Good luck trying to duplicate that.

The problem with Gracepoint is that they did a straight reproduction of Broadchurch and that was a very British show from the pacing to the quiet performances.
With Luther it is going to be an adaptation so there will be some changes made and whether good or bad, that is necessary when bringing a foreign show to the US.

show is overrated, good but overrated. if it wasn for idris elba's charisma it would have been meh. writing is pretty basic imo, nothing new
