No it’s not:comeon:

First off you can’t “not” use commands.

Second the actual action is still more context/command based than a character action game. It’s closer to kingdom hearts than devil may cry.

Aaah the difference between an rpg and an action game

:gucci:

It really is, without using commands you still hack and slash, dodge and allocate moves/abilities to shoulder buttons for quick use

yes you can smh lol, but even when you are using commands, all the while you are not, it’s still clearly action combat, and easily enough to give Square the benefit of the doubt that they can make good action combat when they need to, which is why we’re having this conversation in the first place

Again it’s clearly hybrid action/RPG.

The action of those games is serviceable, but it’s the RPG elements that are the skill/strategy/challenge

An action game is more about your skills with the sticks, combos, blocking, positioning, etc.

To my knowledge Square has not really done that before.

All those things are very important in FF7R, lmao.

Stop it.

Don’t know why y’all doing this dumb shyt. It is clearly an action RPG hybrid and not comparable to regular action games.

There’s only one “attack” button and skills on the other buttons. There’s no combos ala DMC where you gotta hit a specific combination of buttons based on timing.

Attack is basically lock on. When you hit attack you basically teleport to the enemy, same for their attacks. So no positioning doesn’t really matter.

You don’t need any twitch or fast paced skills with the controller. The challenge comes in strategically using your skills/powers. Not how good you are with the controller.

Final Fantasy XV was like that but people complained, because they didn't take the time to learn how to play, but also the game is too easy with no difficulty mode, and can spam items, they took away item spam in this game, but also made based around stats and buffs instead of anything action related, and like you said there's no combos or timing required in this game, and you spam the same moves over and over, and each character only has one combo, Noctis had more attack animations than the entire cast of that game by himself

But I think they will correct the mistakes they made with XV with XVI, the Devil May Cry director is working on the combat so I expect it to be the game to bring the series back to elite status
