The same reason, blacks traveling north were gate-kept from joining unions in many cases, while immigrants from Europe could join. Its not about the economy. Its about ingroup and outgroup. This matters to the point of self destruction.

Multiple reasons. There are people who are in unions but don't like them.
Some unionize fields require new hires to pay fees once they are hired.Bruh 
Biden saved some folks pensions and I think they declined to endorse Kamala.
Now I know this is Anti-democrat/thecoli.com but people who had materially good things done for them went for Trump. There are really some stupid people with incredible cognitive dissonance. There are young people who wanted student loans cancelled who opted not to vote because it didnt happen for them (naturally due to Republicans).
There are mothafukkas who was rationing insulin who are gifted $35 insulin who went Trump. It would be hilarious if only they suffered. Its terrible because EVERYONE has to suffer.
