Truth! I'll give Joe some leeway on the Jennings deal. He had to have the Pistons win now, and drafting Burke or MCW would have been too much of a gamble expecting them to start at the 1, even keeping BK was a dice roll. Jennings atleast was proven to a degree but that gamble hasn't worked even with former pg Cheeks coaching him. Second half of the season will tell if Young Money will always be a low percentage shoot first pg that can't run a team.

I always felt Lionel Hollins was a better fit for the Pistons job but I thought Cheeks would be better than this.
Burke was a local product though. People would have been behind that and been patient, even if he struggled. Jennings has shot over 40% just once in his going on five year career. He is what he is.

I can't give Dumars the benefit of the doubt on the Smith signing either because he's shown time and again that he is atrocious when given money to spend. Anyone could see it wasn't gonna work with Smith, Monroe and Drummond.

Now if it's Gores, not Dumars, telling other teams that Monroe is off limits, he needs to be smacked. That guy has to be moved before the deadline. If they don't move him and match whatever offer he gets in free agency, the Pistons are gonna be fukked for the next three years.

Agreed on Hollins. Can't believe nobody hired him.

If gores is calling the shots then Dumars shoulda quit. Why would Dumars stay here and ruin his rep and his chance to ever get another gm job. I'm sorry but I don't buy that ogres is the puppet master. Dumars built this shytty squad.

How the fukk is he gonna defend Dumars? He's been awful since the Rasheed heist. :childplease:

Did Gores stop him from drafting Burke/MCW and signing Jennings to that awful deal? Did Gores make him sign a PF, when they already had a starting PF? Is Gores stopping him from trading Monroe? fukk outta here. :camby:

yes to all of the above

Dumars was trash before Gores got there.
He also had to answer to Karen Davison and not Tom Davison. Tom didn't care about cap space or making changes (gambling) when needed . At one point Karen wouldn't allow change because she didn't want the Teams value to change. Those CV, BG and Tay contracts helped maintain the value of the franchise regardless of their record. I can't find the exact quote but at one point he reffered to the Curry/ Quester era as having restrictions.

@eastside313 I guess for the same reason most people don't quit their jobs. I'm the longest tenured and top 2 producing worker at my place of buisness. I don't own or run that muthafukka tho. I see a lot of areas that need improvement. But there is a corporate procedure. I need that check, And I enjoy my work so I stick it out even though I know things should be better.

I Imagine it must be compounded for Joe. He loves the Pistons. That's all he ever Knew, and whether he is capable or not I think he feels like he has a legacy to protect. And he wants to right the ship. Dude publicly admitted to the CB trade being a mistake. That shows he is still emotionaly invested. You don't see very many GM's admit mistakes publicly.

So it's never been Dumars' fault is what I'm getting here. He gets all the credit for the '04 Pistons, but everything bad that's happened under his watch falls at somebody else's feet.

for 04 yeah, he built that himself, considering we were trash before he took the mantle. i admit he has some fukk ups (even ainge, and jerry west did) but he should not be blamed for everything and used as the scapegoat :manny:

Dumars has made many mistakes. The contracts of Rip, Tay, trading Billups, Drafting Darko, trading pick to Charlotte... I'm sure there are more. But to think Ownership doesn't influence his decisions is naive. Ever since Tom died every owner has had a personal agenda not related to the actual team. Karen wanted to sell the team. Gores wanted to build an attraction to fill seats without enough weight towards cultivating the talent we already have on the team.
