Canelo's Brother Admits 'More Punches' Are Needed To Beat GGG
By Miguel Rivera

On Monday, boxing fans received the news they were waiting for - a deal was finalized for a rematch between WBC, WBA, IBO, IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) and Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs).

The contest will take place on Cinco De Mayo weekend, May 5th, on HBO Pay-Per-View.

At the present, the venue has not been revealed, but most are expecting the contest to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

They first fought last September, at T-Mobile, with the bout ending with a controversial twelve round split draw.

Both boxers believe they did enough to win the fight.

Canelo's older brother, Rigoberto "Espanol" Alvarez, who at one time held the WBA interim-title at 154-pounds, is not surprised by the rematch being immediate with neither boxer taking another fight.

"This fight had to take place, it was the one that had to occur before any other. Things were very heated and I think both my brother and 'Triple G' wanted the fight. They just had to fix some economic and television issues to get the green light," Alvarez said to Beto Gonzalez.

The strategy for the rematch will be defined by Canelo and his coaches, Chepo and Eddy Reynoso, but Rigoberto took the opportunity to give his opinion about what his brother should do.

He believes his younger brother needs to be more active to avoid another closely scored fight. If Canelo wants to get a clear win on the cards, Rigoberto is advising him to let those hands go.

"Canelo will have to throw a little more punches to make the result clearer. He must also prepare very hard physically, because he already knows what it will be like to fight Golovkin. The second fight in May will be very similar to the first one, it's going to be another war in the ring and I'm completely sure of that," Alvarez said.

To be real I think GGG would be way more active this time around. I feel like he respected Canelo counter-punching ability too much. I got GGG taking a decision.

Boxing is a very wierd sport tho. Its always the slight chance that a boxer will cashout and sleep walk thru the fight. He looked real lethargic last fight and this fight he might just say fukk it. I think GGG have only 1 or 2 more fights left to be real.

In that promo video he looks like he’s in shape already, I think your right that he’s going to be more active this fight.

More activity= more punches to the dome piece

Little g will get knocked out if he gets reckless and he knows it. He felt canelo's power early and made a conscious decision to play it safe. Canelo buckled him to the body a couple times and he never even managed to hit him in the solar plexus. Canelo will definitely be looking for the body a lot more this time. Little g letting his hands go more is exactly what canelo wants. If little g had been as reckless as he was with brook he woulda been bludgeoned.

People also overlook the fact that Golovkin was exhausted as well. I forgot what round it was, maybe 9 or 10, but Golovkin was breathing so damn hard in his corner that Sanchez had to reassure him that Canelo was more tired than he was.

Canelo had Golovkin apprehensive early, and tired down the stretch. Golovkin ain't have an off night, he was just too tired to apply more pressure because of Canelo's brilliant countering.

Plus super Mario admitted that little g was hesitant because of canelo's counter punching ability. If little g didn't respect canelo's power, he woulda went wild on him like he did brook. But he knew early on he couldn't take canelo's best shots repeatedly.

canelo clearly bucked little g here. and that shyt wasn't even in the sweet spot. you watch some of the clips and little g was damn near bending in half just to avoid canelo's body shots. if little g opens up more, canelo will destroy his body. I could see canelo dropping him with one perfectly placed body shot at any moment.

He was breathing hard but he kept throwing punches and marching forward. He definitely look like he had more than Canelo by the end.

"I've watched it like 10 times, I think I had a good fight. I won the fight by two points. I think that, in order to be more convincing, I just have to throw more punches and nothing else. We are analyzing the idea of training in the mountains of Colorado, to be at a high elevation to gain more conditioning," Canelo said.

"We are looking for a convincing victory. That's why we're going this time and we're going to prepare for a more active fight. I will give the best of myself in training so that the fight is easier.

Looks like conditioning is gonna be the focal point of training camp this time around. Canelo knows he has to be a lot more active. I like the idea of training in high altitude but they still need to add somebody who has experience with high altitude training. But I'm glad he's finally admitting that he gotta work on the conditioning. After the fight he said it wasn't an issue. If his stamina just gave out after 6 rounds instead of 3, he wins the fight in convincing fashion.

I don't expect him to have great stamina, but even just a slight improvement will be enough to win this fight going away. This shyt is gonna be a domination.

Bad idea to try something new like this in a big fight, it can back fire.

I don’t think there’s anything else to do in improve his stamina, tbh his stamina in his last fight was the best I’ve ever seen plus with the added pressure of triple g. The reason so was cuz he trained like no other in that fight, he started training right after the Chavez fight.

Simply put, GGG NEEDS a KO to win :manny: I'm not 100% sure he can do any better to get a decision over Canelo outside of dropping him 2-3 times. If Canelo looks even a fraction better than 1st fight he's getting a close UD win.

Canelo-Golovkin Rematch: Meeting Scheduled To Discuss Venue
By Steve Kim

As everyone knows, the rematch between IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) and Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has been finalized for May 5th. What hasn't been determined is just where this event will be staged.

"We've got some meetings schedules tomorrow," said Canelo's promoter Eric Gomez, the president of Golden Boy Promotions, to BoxingScene.com. "Tom Loeffler (of GGG Promotions) is coming into the office and I'm going to meet with him. We're going to compare notes but we're close and I think that within the next ten days or so we should have something.

"But it's just a matter of fine-tuning and finalizing the negotiations with the venue."

An interesting scenario has come up.

Last year, Floyd Mayweather snapped a two-year retirement to fight UFC superstar Conor McGregor in a boxing match. He stopped McGregor in the tenth round.

Now there are circulating articles which claim that there are actual discussions to have Mayweather debut in mixed martial arts - possibly against McGregor.

Gomez says that whatever rumors of Mayweather entering the boxing ring or Octagon against McGregor - or anyone else - will have no bearing on their decision of where the fight takes place.

"No, not at all, not at all, the first fight was pretty one-sided and I think that if Floyd was to go into MMA that would probably make some noise," Gomez admitted on Wednesday afternoon.

Gomez then opined - ''he wouldn't be fighting a top fighter in MMA because it will tarnish his legacy - he would have no chance in the MMA. No chance whatsoever."

The first encounter between Golovkin and Alvarez - which ended in a twelve round split draw - was held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 16th and had a live gate of approximately $27 million, the third largest in boxing history in the state of Nevada.
