That's cheap

Cheap relatively speaking but if you're a regular person doing rap as a side thing and trying to come up, making next to zero income from rap, $50 per beat adds up when you have to deal with studio time, paying promoters, paying for mixes, getting vids out, etc etc. Some producers do package deals like 5 beats for $25 but a lot don't

Mustard might be a bad example for this. He over saturated himself by literally using the same sounds over and over. But on the flip side he made a lot of money so good for him. He switching it up and still here. Needed Me a top 10 record right now
Theres a 0 percent chance Mustard actually produced that "Needed Me"

My larger point with Mustard is that you have people making beats that sound like his sig sound and undercutting the fee he's charging because of the success he has...

Thats what the guy in tweets is talking about

Find a producer to invest in you

You can fault producers for their prices cuz they have to eat too. If their beats trash then that's a different story

shyt thecoli have some dope ass producers, ask them for some help.

I'm not a rapper I just know people who go through it. And I'm not faulting producers, I'm just saying Fly Lo can't fault rappers either (least on the local level) :manny: But lets be honest here its not like local random producers are making the hottest shyt out that would put you on immediately, most are good at best and make 1 beat out of 6 that are worth the price, the rest of the market is heavily oversaturated with mediocre/wack shyt

this.

diplo laid out the blueprint for success as a producer the most.

tour your own material
produce for other artists
run a label
do side projects
license music for tv radio commercials
tour internationally from clubs to festivals
promote artists
run a brand
do engineering for other artists
radio shows on online radio to bbc

just be busy 24/7
Producers would be eating real good if they all did this.

I fukks heavy with flylo but these nikkas deserve to get got.

I'm tired of hearing them complain about not getting there paperwork right. shyt stay happening. If management ain't involved and names ain't on a dotted line then keep it moving.

Money reigns over everything.

i dont do shyt for free as a producer anymore cause i got to eat pay rent pay bills etc. if I relied solely on producing for other artists for income thats not a good thing.

This is why I can't really take anyone who is talking shyt on him serious. People got responsibilities and need to eat. You should be compensated for your time.

And I don't think hes taking shots at Future. Why the fukk would Future be working with Flying Lotus???

The plight of the modern day hip hip producer is that sooo many people ha. access to equipment/software these days and a lot of people are really good. Simple supply and demand. The over saturation of the market will decrease product worth. That's why you have people giving away beats just to get on. For producers who are on, they are having to get money on the back end more than they were back in the day.

true indeed ......with the tons of revenue in streaming ......a lot of producers are missing out on that....simply cause the artists are as well..due to these primitive contracts being signed which never addressed the digital streaming era we are in.

but unfortunately.......even if a producer stipulated "back end pay" (mechanical royalties, publishing) that's another hit and miss situation these days..

cause HARDLY ANY PRODUCER CAN GET PLACEMENTS, BECAUSE VERY FEW ALBUMS ARE BEING RELEASED IN THE RETAIL MARKET
:manny:

one of the main reasons I got out the game...because I wasn't going to continue selling this "dream" to the producers I managed and consulted that I could get them placement on an artist's album.

the "mixtape" replaced the album these days as an artist's main body of work...and the issues of royalties and revenue were and still are very complicated and political.

so regardless how "connected" you are in this game...its very difficult to get fully compensated on the back end , due to the changing business model that has occurred over the past 5 years.

I know a cat who is a talented producer from texas who is very much plugged in with 9th wonder's camp and Kanye's people, even worked with Kanye's cousin ..the soulful singer Tony Williams whom song background on a lot of Kanye's work...and this man got so frustrated by how the game changed he went back to having a "regular life" (9 to 5). :francis:

cause not only the industry was throwing him shade...but he was catching it on the unsigned underground level as well...simply cause mofos didn't appreaciate the VALUE of production anymore...like u said any mofo with access to equipment and software has basically saturated the game.

so his upfront prices DIPPED dramatically......

and that hurt me as well...cause I couldn't secure proper revenue for both of us being that I was his consultant

the GAME is fukked up.......and I don't think pointing the fingers at the RAPPERS helps the situation..alot of them are powerless as well

it's the labels :yeshrug:

that's got everybody against each other..... producer vs. rapper....rapper vs. management....management vs. producer...blah blah blah

while the labels cash the fattest checks

that's why I love the film created by ZAYTOVEN which is semibiographical entitled BIRDS OF A FEATHER cause it addressed that: birds of a feather - YouTube

I swear I just had this thought earlier today while sitting in traffic, reading a post about Curren$y,

"Curren$y made 5 projects this year?! It's June.. :dwillhuh:

I'm sure he's eatin' good off his shows, but how do all these producers get paid who're making these beats? Are they just giving them to him?" :dahell:
