Disney Seeks Mediation, But DeSantis Says Mediation Wouldn't Be Productive in First Amendment Fight Headed to Federal Court

In a court filing last month in the Disney vs DeSantis lawsuit, Disney suggested mediation, but Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ legal team said that mediation would not be productive. The statements were made in a Joint Report issued by Disney and DeSantis’ legal counsel. The report gained media attention due to the suggested timelines from the competing counsel where DeSantis’ team pushed for a trial date after the 2024 Presidental Election had been completed. Disney suggested a July 15, 2024 trial start date.

Basically he's doing his best to stall out any Disney related court room action until after the 2024 election.

He's ducking the fade

While I 100% think he’s stalling, a 2-year timeline on a federal civil case is pretty normal in the jurisdiction I practice.

Thanks for that. I admit that I'm not in the law field :ehh:

No big. It’s gonna vary on a case-by-case basis. For some of the stuff I do, we have the super long timeline because discovery takes forever, and then both sides have to go and hire experts, and they need time to respond and depos take forever.

Based on what’s in Disney’s complaint, and all of the dumb shyt he and his party have said on the public record, i 100% think this case could be tried by July next year. As far as I can tell, Disney wouldn’t even need depos cuz DeSantis and company were hitting the end zone dance and screaming the quiet part out loud. I don’t see any real need for experts. And oddly enough, if DeSantis and co-took depos, his lawyers are so bad, it would probably bolster Disney’s case that this was politically motivated.

There won't even be a trial.

Once it is no longer politically advantageous for him he will send his people to come up with some kind of "settlement." And Disney will jump at the opportunity because as this effort to mediate shows, they don't actually want this fight. It is a distraction to their business. Even more they probably aren't even that angry about it bc they understand it's all politically motivated. This is a win win for both of them. Disney gets to look like they're standing up for liberal/progressive ideals, DeSantis the opposite. They sit by as the pawns and simpletons fight it out over social media etc.

1) how the fukk are there any LGBTQ conservatives in the first place?

If there are Black conservatives, then anyone can be conservative. And it's easier to be an LGBTQ conservative than a Black conservative because you can be gay and still completely isolated from the rest of the gay community, so if other gay people are going through shyt it doesn't have to impact you. Unlike the average Black person who has Black family members, grew up with Black friends, more likely than not came from a Black neighborhood, etc. Gay people don't have all gay family members and didn't grow up in gay neighborhoods, so they can distance themselves from the problems the rest of their community faces more easily.

I can kind of get the black conservative angle, if you take a good faith approach to color blindness. I think it doesn’t reflect reality, but can see how someone gets there.

But, 1of the tenets of modern American conservatism is gays shouldn’t be allowed to marry each other, adopt, or exist in the shadow. Like, it’s not even coded like the racist parts, just point blank “no gays.” How do they reconcile that

They're like Tariq, "We agree with them on everything other than the racism."

Either they feel like marriage is settled and conservatives aren't actually going to block it, or they feel the "good conservatives" aren't against marriage, or they just feel it's the rush they want to take considering all the other issues. Hell, it wasn't long ago that plenty of Democrats were against gay marriage and gay adoption too, so it's not like they ain't used to holding their nose.

The most important thing to remember is that many Americans vote first for whoever they think will help their pocketbook, and second for whoever will protect their racial community (which in the long run, is also a pocketbook issue). Plenty of white gay folk will ignore their own human rights as gay people if they think the Republicans are protecting them as white people and/or rich people.

And, of course, we can't forget that we're only talking about 1/4 of them here.

the gay conservative clique is so small and lack so much power on that side they literally just cling to whoever will promise them some money and power.
Of course when the leopard turns on you...
You have to act shocked because it is a surprise but you can't be so blind to the way a lot of right wing politics have made bedfellows with people they don't normally fukk with.
the gay black conservatives
the trans influencers
the minority influencers
the republican porn stars I see on twitter
etc

all of them are basically subservient to the Christian white majority so whenever someone like desantis eventually steps on one or more of these groups and it actually affects them they have no choice but to distance themselves.
The money and power won't mean anything if you have no rights lol

Working hard to tank investment in his state

:mjlol:
I disagree with the DOJ here and I'm far from a Desantis supporter. How can something be unconstitutional when it targets noncitizens?
