He has to kill even any discussion of trump running. He can't afford to leave a vacuum right now.
Also, with the GOP there's no such thing as peaking too early. Once you've "united" the party, they're not going to budge. Everyone will fall in line.

Unfortunately will beat Harris markedly.
Not even mentioning domestic issues Harris will be a tough sell.

Play up Harris' weakness in national security.
China and Russia and making moves to weakens Americas dominance so people will be more likely to go with a "strong" "bold" leader.
