Why does every black show that comes out have to be a comparison to a white show. Damn- sick of seeing it, y’all go from making Seinfeld comparisons in this thread to an obscure corny white hipster show. There’s no comparison. Sheesh- discuss the series for what it is on its own merit- tf does a “black version” even mean- it’s not a black version of any white show.I just got hip to this show. I saw one of the current seasons episodes then went back and binge watched all of season 1. Probably because it’s set in NY but it reminds me of a black version of How To Make It In America. Just started watching season 2. So far so good. It’s good to see dude from the Wire in kind of a lead role too. He’s been a background character in stuff forever.
I had to edit my own post because I went a lil too hard initially imo and it’s not that serious. I made the comparison because it’s a comedy based in NY dealing with young people trying to get their creative stuff off the ground while constantly hitting obstacles which is similar to the show I referenced. I said a black version cuz like you said that other show had hipster vibes to it which to me is some white people shyt for the most part. This show has some general/universal themes but it also showcases a lot of black/african/caribbean culture. I don’t think it’s a problem to compare a black show to a white show if there is no other black show that I know or can think of at the moment to compare it to. Like I can’t compare this to the Chi because the premise is too far off. You feel me? I’m not trying to discredit it or minimize it by comparing it to the other show. Why does every black show that comes out have to be a comparison to a white show.
