got dayum @Basaglia is killing it on the Nate Parker argument.
brings a tear to my eye
real talk, i was fukking two (self-labeled) black feminists at the time. they're both active on twitter. Girl A understood the importance of the movie and we went to see it together. Girl B was vehemently against seeing it. I tried to debate her on why and she was buying the smear campaign hook, line, and sinker.
after the movie Girl A admitted the smear campaign was ridiculous and even said "A lot of things people were saying about the movie weren't true. There was nothing wrong with the way the women were portrayed."
as a black man, stuff like this makes me mad because I had never seen anything like the all out effort to ruin this movie. Sadly our sisters didn't recognize they were being used as pawns to tear down a black man.
oh and the movie was good btw. I don't know what yall talking about. Nate Parker acted his ASS off. He showed range I didn't even know he was capable of.
I remember people shytting on the "historical inaccuracies" in Birth of a Nation too. I was blown, what movies don't take artistic license in movies. I wanted to ask those same people how historically accurate Hidden Figures was, but it was a such win for black women and they don't care about being consistent with their arguments so I chilled.
Arguing with them is like arguing with republicans at this point.
Them same type of nikkas not watching iron fist because he ain't an asian on the show.I lay back in the cut on twitter ALL THE TIME because of this. There is no use. It's all emotion.
Some folks sure, but more people were likely to not see the movie afterward. I know I didn't pay to see the movie because I wasn't gonna give that nikka my money. You can think its a shytty movie if you want but if you think after the rape shyt came out people weren't out to get it you're a motherfukking lie and the truth ain't in you.

And to other people...the issue I have with the historical inaccuracies is that THIS nikka KEPT HEMMIN AND HAWING THAT THE MOVIE WAS ACCURATE. Bullshyt. Most directors and writers say they took some liberties, not Parker, that nikka said he was giving the people the true story.
bytch where.
And don't get me started on how women are treated in that fukking movie, it's pretty goddamn awful[/QUOTE]
