Do you work a second job? From what I understand ya'lls shifts are intense-- but spread sparingly.
Could you still pass the physical if you had to do it today? (be honest)
Are there any follow up physicals that would remove you if you aren't up to par? I notice cops be fat as hell, but firefighters, not as much. I'll ask more if/when it comes to me.
1. No but majority of guys I work with do. They work in trades, real estate, military, nursing, personal trainer, substitute teaching etc. We get a lot of off time compared to a 40 hour schedule. I choose to travel in my free time, I take multiple international trips a year.
2. The preliminary physical? Absolutely, a cakewalk
6 month fire academy? Could do it but I’d struggle the first couple weeks. My cardio not like it was when I was going thru that shyt
3. Dk how it is elsewhere but where I’m at it’s some big boys they can get as big as they want and Keep their job. Talking guys north of 300 lbs. Department won’t cover them for certain injuries from my understanding. Oh you got bad knees & back from 20 years of firefighting? They’ll say it’s due to your weight
How much
You have to deal with?!
None at all. Department has a zero tolerance for it, like I said. My crew is diverse..Asian, Hispanic, black, white…23 years old all the way to 53 years old. I go over my white homie crib and his kids called me uncle. I go over my Puerto Rican coworker crib his wife got a plate ready for me. It’s a brotherhood, all love
This…fire can travel behind walls and ceilings so we have to completely strip the room down to the studs. I’ve had fires travel all the way from the basement up to the 3rd floor attic behind the walls. Especially in older homes
