Rizzo, Soto, Cole have won. They have that experience. I think they need to go young and get some energy/hunger in the lineup. Whenever the Yanks play their young guys it's a more exciting brand of baseball.
Cole is 34. The window is closing fast. Rizzo is as washed up as I’ve ever seen a hitter. The last time a Yankee playing first base hit a homer was 7/31 vs the Phillies when DJ hit a grand slam. Judge for Vladimir Guerrero is the trade to fix first base.

Here is what would need to happen...

He would need to give Soto at least a 500M deal and probably closer to 600M because there WILL be a bidding war.

Even if you assume something wild like a 14 year deal, the Yankees are looking at an additional 10-20 million dollars more per year just for Soto alone. He made 31 million this year and you gotta figure Boras is gonna try to get 50M and negotiate from there.

On top of that, you have to win the bidding for Munetaka Murakami whenever he comes out. And that's probably gonna cost a team 20 million per year.

Plus the Yankees have to find a 1B.
And they have to find long term solutions at the middle infield spots because Gleyber and Volpe suck dikk. Probably one of those spots is filled in free agency and the other via the farm system.

But it's hard to see the Yankees being a real contender unless Hal is prepared to go into the 350M+ range in payroll.

And by the way, the Yankees already are paying 70M more than the Dodgers are right now.
This all hinges on them re-signing Soto of course. Judge for Guerrero, swing a trade for Brent Rooker since we know the A’s don’t even pretend to care about winning. Now your outfield is solved with the Martian in centerfield. I liked Chisholm at third (definitely liked his willingness to take on said challenge too) and I think Wells can be the guy at catcher. If you get Torres back on a 3 year deal you only need to get rid of Volpe. Find a guy to trade for or leave him hitting 9th until another good shortstop hits free agency. Now you have a young core of batters all in their 20’s to build around (aside from Stanton) and can almost wipe the slate from the failure that was the baby bomber era. Then you just gotta replace Boone and Cashman to fully change the culture, which is as needed as anything.

Signing Soto will go a long way to keeping the perception that Hal is a good owner. After that there are a million ways to skin a cat.
Damn, niqqaz giving up on Volpe already?! I always thought he was overrated but he has yet to reach his full potential which is an above avg. major leaguer. He's not the problem. What about Rice, Dominguez and Cabrera? I think you give guys like that more playing time and sell off some expensive guys for younger talent (Cole, Rodon, Chisolm, Verdugo) and actually be patient and develop that talent.
Volpe, like remote said, is awful. No consistent approach at the plate, his swing is all over the place. He chases out of the zone, strikes out on pitches deep in the zone, doesn’t hit the ball hard, and doesn’t put the ball in the air. He had a pair of 5+ week stretches without hitting a homer this year and in one of them he went 4-5 weeks without even pulling a fly ball to left field. Mechanically he’s all over the place too. A total lost cause. There’s nothing encouraging whatsoever about him as a hitter. They should move on from him as soon as a viable option becomes available. Passing on 3 all star shortstops in favor of this guy was a firing worthy offense. The stopgap they picked over said 3 all stars was better for Toronto this year than Volpe was by a mile. Do we need to say much more?

Frankly if Juan Soto has any sense he will play elsewhere in 2025.

He has to see clearly that the Yankees only had 2 players worth a damn in that lineup and he was one of them.

And the free agent market is weak, so there is no real opportunity to bolster this roster.

Welcome to Boston. :ohlawd: .

They aren't doing any of this but I appreciate the imagination.

No chance they do any of it at all. They’ll be most concerned with patting themselves on the back and lashing out at anyone who trashes them for rolling over and dying once they got punched in the mouth to end game 1. I wouldn’t even be shocked if they lowball Soto to the point he leaves and they spend the next 5 years trying to sell us on “hey we made the World Series. What more do you want?” even after the window is slammed shut.

Under no circumstances should Boone be allowed anywhere near this team next year. How many times are bad fundamentals going to be allowed to sink the team? They lost the World Series because they couldn’t handle routine ground balls. Second time in 3 years their season has ended because they can’t handle easy ground balls.

Stankees fans mad at and want to get rid of the wrong Aaron. One costs a lot less than the other and doesn't choke in prime time

Fire Boone trending on Twitter :mjlol:
As it should be. His entire career as manager they’ve been bad at the fundamental basics and seem to get worse at it every year. They had 5-6 blown saves this year purely due to bad fielding. That alone cost them home field advantage in the World Series. Then this happens in an elimination game. 3 separate errors between 5 different guys in a single inning that lets 5 unearned runs score in a 1 run loss. I doubt that’s ever happened in a World Series game and it absolutely should be the end of his career.
