Bad attendance, directionless show where nobody feels important, bad morale in the back, lowest ratings ever? I legit don’t think Vince or Stephanie have it in them to get it together. The ties to trump could surface soon too, and we’ve speculated more than a few times about Vince laundering money just like his pal trump.
The way WWE runs their business makes absolutely no sense to me. I cannot think of a single entertainment entity that functions with such open contempt for its audience and its workers and seemingly has no desire to change.
I think about how much people have shytted on DC films for the last couple years and how that's led to WB doing a massive restructuring of their strategy around the IP. Well, WWE has been getting that kind of heat for OVER A DECADE and hasn't changed a motherfukking thing. If anything, generating that kind of heat has only made them dig their heels in deeper and be more stubborn in refusing to adapt to modern audiences.
WWE has been able to get by on being really the only game in town for big budget, high production value pro wrestling. Sure hardcore wrestling fans know they can watch any number of indie promotions, but for the casual, WWE
is wrestling. The problem for them is that because they refuse to change the show or work to put on a better quality program, interest in wrestling itself is at an all time low in the mainstream. It's officially become a niche, nerdy thing that most people have no interest in seeking out, and that's only going to become more evident as people switch over to streaming services where there's no WWE content.
Further, because the show is so bad, they're also scaring off the hardcore fans. They'll always have their lifers, but the hardcore fans are moving on to New Japan and Ring of Honor and whatnot. Or just falling out of wrestling as well and only tuning in for big shows. They're losing fans of all stripes and not creating new ones if reports about their fanbase aging are to be believed.
Then you get into how they treat their workers and I think that's going to start hurting them as well. Again, they'll always have marks who just want to have their check say "WWE" on it, but I think a lot indie talent is seeing the treatment of people like Sasha Banks and Luke Harper and thinking it best they hold off. Hell, Kenny Omega is one of the hottest independent acts on the planet and he's said flat out that's why he hasn't signed. If you know you can earn a decent living at places that will treat you better, why put up with the E's bullshyt?
I don't know when it's going to happen, but I think WWE's day is coming. The model they've built just isn't sustainable in the long term, and as soon as them TV deal checks start looking funny, it's all going to come crashing down.
