Probably because Kurt openly shat on Nevermind and the mixing, and all the attention the album got.

I think people choose In Utero so they don't sound like a poser, and to look like a "Real Fan".

Why can’t we just genuinely enjoy in utero more? This argument is eternal. I love the fukk out of nevermind but I prefer to play in utero when given a choice. Unplugged is my overall favorite though.
