Finally found out why I like Nirvana. Dave Grohl stole from black drummers.

Dave Grohl isn’t a great drummer, and neither is Travis Barker if we’re being honest. Both are basically the French Montanas of the rock world, where they make good connections and friends with a bunch of people.

The best rock drummers use weird time signatures, can play drums insanely fast and insanely precise. Grohl and Barker are nowhere near that level. The average death metal drummer, progressive rock drummer, and jazz drummer is substantially more technically proficient than Grohl or Barker.

But, that doesn’t mean they don’t make good songs. Nirvana songs are some of the simplest shyt ever. But, they’re still good. Technical skill and hit making ability are two different things :yeshrug:

The drums of almost all of the grunge acts from that era had a clear and definable black influence. It’s why a lot of black people fukked with that sound more than they had other styles of rock.

Yep but keep in mind, this was gen x, revolutionary 60s, civil rights type of shyt. The 90s was actually very revolutionary where certain artists didnt make it out the decade. Plus david grohl is from the dmv area.

Dave Grohl has a snap to his drumming like the Queensryche drummer.. they’re not simple bread and butter drummers.. they definitely lifted from black drummers

Nah Travis Barker definitely a good drummer. A good drummer don’t have to use weird time signatures, who the fukk told you that? Using a weird time signature just to use one barely even makes sense

Grunge, Metal (especially Nu-Metal), Hard rock etc. Owe a great deal to James Brown and Hip-Hop.

I've heard classic breaks replayed on mad Nu-Metal albums. Like the same kids who were listening to Ozzy Osbourne and Metallica were also bumping Public Enemy & other mid-to-late late 80's & early 90's Hip-Hop.

It's so obvious to me that R&B and later on Hip-Hop continued to have an influence on Rock well past the 50's but people act like that shyt never happened or if they acknowledge it, they minimize it's importance.
