If you want old school turn based FF you have octopath. If you want new school turn based jrpg you got Dragon Quest. FF is never gonna do the same thing twice

7 remake is pretty much the same system as western rpgs like Pillar of Eternity, real time with pause
Back when it was turn based it wasn’t doing the same thing twice really. Fact is Persona is as close as we will get to AAA production values with turn based combat and Persona is more like AA. Dragon Quest is the soul of a 16 bit game with modern looking graphics.

No company has the confidence to put high production values behind turned based combat anymore.

Because theres a very clear ceiling for turn based games. The only turn based JRPG that will ever break 10m in sales these days is pokemon, but it’s a nintendo IP, which doesn’t really follow the same rule set as the rest of the industry. Like how Mario Kart as a racing game and Smash Bros as a fighting game can do 40m+ in sales.

for as much as “old school” final fantasy fans moan about it, they are an extremely niche sector of the gaming market. There are far people interested in the franchise now since FF7 Remake than there ever were

Naw, lotta “action” games ain’t selling that great either.

I’m sure if they put some real effort behind a traditional style FF game people would run out to buy that shyt.

If you are gonna cash in on peoples nostalgia then give them what they want. People would buy the hell out of decently funded turn based FF game.

You ahve no proof of that, meanwhile i can point to games like God of War or Ghost of Tsushima that are selling 10 million, the latter in two years, the former in 3 months
