I don’t completely disagree with this list but this part didn’t really make much sense

Missing EIKONS

Tonberry and Cactuar aren’t typically summons, they are more known as being high level enemies. Knights of The Round wouldn’t make sense for obvious reasons and they were only a thing in one game, and Carbuncle…..eh, thats typically a low level thing.

Alexander is the only notable one that’s completely missing as I assume Leviathan is cut content. Eventually you gotta decide on a handful of Eikons instead of just putting a bunch of them in the game just because.

I think the Eikon abilities in the game could have used more tweaking and some of them could have used more story instead of focusing on the prostitutes, that type of time should have been dedicated to Benedikta and Barnabas, for example.

And i stand by that a lot of these flaws mentioned are present in FF7R also people just have blinders on regarding a lot that games design decisions. thats why they ended up around the same rating.
I honestly loved everything about Remake.

The only thing I think need help was the side quests, that’s it.

The game was fun from beginning to end.

I could not wait to finish 16 because it was taking way too long and there were too many side quests that weren’t needed.

I don’t really wanna bring down 16 because I really enjoyed the game, but the time I put into it wasn’t worth it at all, and I put a lot of time into it.

Other games I put that much time in was completely worth it.

People might not think that it matters how a game ends, but I spent $70 on a game I really won’t play again unless they add some good shyt to the ending.

I should’ve GameFly that shyt.

It’s honestly pretty sad to like something and not want to play it again because it felt like a waste of time.

I wanna know though, what flaws from 16 do you see in Remake?

I’ve explained it in other posts countless times on here.

  • The Sidequest are actually worse in FF7 Remake. Not only are they mundane unlike 16 they are much longer and don’t do any world building at all. I bet you couldn’t name me one memorable and meaningful sidequest from Remake. I could certainly name a bunch that i will remember from FFXVI even if they were basically fetch quest, its a JRPG/SE thing that they still haven’t quite figured out.
  • Both games have pacing issues. Just like FF7 has big boss moments and set pieces (Which the best ones are based on cutscenes from the original) theres a lot of junky running back and forth down hallways in FF7. Everything you do in sector 7 is forgettable, the characters, the quests, the locations, nothing stands out aside from 7th heaven and the people in avalanche. Same with Sector 5, the most memorable parts about it take place at Aerith’s house and the Church.
  • The dungeon design, FFXVI might be super linear but I’d take that over the maze-like dungeons of FF7R. The Rafters where you gotta turn off the lights, Hojo’s Lab, the warehouses of sector 7, the sewers, etc. I don’t find any of them that fun or intriguing and some of them you have to go through twice or more like the highway.
  • And this isn’t part of XVI but once again, 7 remake did nothing to expand upon the actual lore of FF7 in any meaningful way. They could have went more into the war with Wutai, Shinra’s plans for the Promised Land, more background on avalanche and Biggs and Wedge, etc. but it’s really just a lot of padding and filler inbetween waiting for the big moments of the original game. There’s almost nothing new added to remake that stands up next to the original game, whether its set pieces, story, new characters, etc.

Midgar is my least favorite part of 7 (which for about two decades was my favorite game, ever) and the remake did nothing to make it more interesting. Turning that 4 hour section into 30+ did that whole section of the game no justice. the things people love and remember from remake will be directly linked to what they loved about the original, not the extra 28 hours of game they added inbetween

Well aside from recency bias, FFXVI has an overwhelmingly larger amount of side quests. FFXVI has 76 side quests, while FFVIIR had only 28 while they were almost the same length play time.

Also, the side quests aren't necessarily bad because they don't go deep into the world or anything, the point is they are "side" quests with rewards that are FAR better in FFVIIR. Okay, some side quests in FFXVI might be good for the story but there aren't any rewards that matter aside from gil bug or some random item that you'll never even need to use.

In FFVIIR you have materia and other items that have a meaningful difference in combat. In FFXVI because of the gimped battle system, nothing really matters as you can literally just finish the game without worrying about anything.

I've literally gone almost the majority of the game in FFXVI without ever needing to upgrade or get another weapon. FFXVI in terms of combat depth is extremely weak. It literally requires nothing but dodge and parry which is damn near piss poor easy and pummeling the enemy with attacks. There's no need to have strategy. Torgal is basically useless as is Jill. Not to mention you can't even control them. I don't know what they were thinking with this battle system gimping. The real time combat is nice but it's too easy and lacks anything important. How can you have a FF game without no real "magic", no need for elixirs or ether, no status ailments whether it weakens or empowers you. Like lol wtf.

Disagree again. I never found any section in FFVII "boring" per se. The lows of FFVIIR were FAR higher than the depth lows of FFXVI. I found some sections of FFXVI straight-up boring and would rush to leave the area so the story can continue. I mean this can come down to preference since you do say you don't like Midgar at all so it may be more annoying to you to be in it for an entire "game'.

The original game is three discs long, how is this even a comparison? The original game can be compared to when the entire remake trilogy is completed. Right now you're comparing the entire experience of the original FFVII to one section of a remake. It's not exactly fair.

If you take something thats originally only 4 hours long and expand it, you would expect to see a lot of character growth and world building expand with it. The stuff they added to FF7 Midgar’s section didn’t do any of that. When we first heard that they were basing an entire game around midgar, we thoguht we’d have this big city to explore and all these new interesting characters in this cyber-punk like setting to meet. There was a lot of promise around what Midgar is, the culture, the military, the war, what other plates are like, etc.

In the end, it was like nothing. You were just running around 3 sections that were already part of the original game, and doing nothing really interesting in them. The majority of the game is just hallways, it doesn’t feel like a big living breathing city. Like when you’re on the highway during the motorcycle chases it’s very ‘Neo Tokyo’ and then when you’re in the slums, it just kind of feels like a normal rpg town with a bunch of Static npc’s.

They essentially did nothing to build Midgar up to be this metropolis of technology and corruption that we were being told it was for 3 decades

And yeah, i mean what were the rewards for the sidequest in ff7? The fact that I can’t even remember, probably means they weren’t that unique. FFXVi’s quest are short and they constantly built up to something storywise. I don’t really do sidequest just for rewards, the rewards to me has always been lore/story, just like Witcher 3. What am I gonna do with more Gil or another Heal Materia?

I agree with this. It wasn't "expanded" as much as they said they would but that doesn't make the overall experience feel "bloated". It just seems like you didn't want to stay in Midgar at all.

This isn't really a matter of if they weren't unique, they were actually worth doing since it affected how you played the game. Most of the side quests in FFXVI aren't building up this grandiose story, like come on breh out of 76 sidequests are you telling me all of them built the story and characters up? Most of em was dumb shyt. That's the point I'm making there were far too many. FFVIIR only had 28 quests and a good amount of them gave you weapons/materia/summons and other things that felt like it mattered for the game.

Of course story wise it's good to have sidequests that add to the story as well but let's not pretend FFXVI had 76 or even 36 amazing side quests that were all juicy story building quests. It was a bunch of delivering food to nikkas 5 feet away from the quest giver lol.

I mean a majority of those sidequest only took a few minutes to do also. Like even with quick travel the longest most of those sidequest took was like maybe 5 minutes? The longer sidequest rewarded you with good story, like ‘Eye for an Eye’ or the quest with Torgul.

Like i’m not kidding when i still say there is not one sidequest from all 30 of FF7R that sticks out to me at all. The dress thing, is like such a big deal for a JRPG that there is a way you can actually effect the story through choice, thats such a non-thing in other games its not even worth acknowledging.

FFXVI has twice as much, with about a 3rd of them being decent.

FF7R has half as many with like none of them being good at all, unless you count the VR combat simulations that give you summons.

In the end, i think people will enjoy FF7R more for the fact that it’s better at being a “Final Fantasy” game but I don’t think either are very good role playing games, i think they are just good games doing different things but i do find there’s a weakness overall when it comes to how SE designs their games these days.

also, I do think Rebirth will probably be better than both games.

I think for me FFXVI has just too much side quests at the wrong time that overwhelms the player. Like, I just finished defeating Kupka but everything before that was almost a slog. I stopped playing for about a week because side quest after side quest kept coming up and I'm like omg this is too much I just want to move on with the story.

If it were up to me, I’d delete at least half the sidequest and put in at least a dozen more hunts

Agree with a lot of this. The only one I would say I strongly disagree on is only playing as Clive. He's a muthafukkin G,:banderas: would not want to play as anyone else.
We did play as Joshua, idk what that reason was for lmao. I guess they just chucked it for the rest of the game.

Yeah I don’t really see a point of switching characters because you already have the best of their powers.

If you could semi-prime with them though, now we talkin.

Fetch quests are the majority of side quests in the majority of open world games.
