Just beat the game and despite all the shenanigans and whatnot throughout the last half (and even throughout the whole game on a number of levels), game is still a solid 8 in my book. Perhaps since I rather curtailed all anticipation about the game many years ago, it wasn't such a heartsink of disappointment in the end for me and beyond the number of things that the game did wrong, it still did a lot good/fun/entertaining for me as a full package. Also, some complaints that some folks have didn't really phase me as roughly as it did others it.

:laff:Breh I thought I was the only one. I legit felt stupid when they zoomed in and he said his name. I was like :dwillhuh:ummmm...am I supposed to be familiar with this dudes name and I completely missed it?
:deadmanny:
Stuff gets thrown at you so sporadically that I couldn't, or even bothered to keep up with what little details they provided.
They legit could have called him Thaddeus Bigglebottom III of the House of Canterburgh and i wouldve had the same reaction :deadwolverine:

Ah man, im so glad this is not just me

The reason for that being a big deal was
the big reveal about Ardyn's real full name was that his last name was Caelum, which is Noctis bloodline. Ardyn is essentially his great XS 16 (give or take a few more greats) grandfather. While I admit, the story isn't explained as cleanly/coherently a possible, to say the least, there was a few minor hints sprinkled here and there.

I read that ardyn was the true king and noctis' family stole his name and kingdom. so he's been waiting for noctis to come back to get back at everyone

I think you're misunderstanding the complaints. The overall plot makes sense, it's the fact that every major event happens off camera and you're informed in a sloppy "oh by the way" type of style. The stuff we do see is a rushed cut scene that plays at the most awkward times. It's very poor story telling. They should have given us some big moments. If this game was ff7 they wouldn't have shown you everything leading up to where Aeris dies and show you the actual death. They would have had you on another continent fighting a random monster, go to a camp and when you wake up, receive a message through the dog that tells you "oh by the way, Aeris died. You should be mad now".

Considering that
Luna dies in a very similar fashion as Aeris, to the point that her death and character is practically a homage to that very character and moment, down to the giving Noctis the ring whilst going under water with flowers all in the background, your analogy is outright off and terrible here man, lol!

Not at all. FF7 built up each character. You can't compare the story of FF7 to the nearly nonexistent story of FFXV.
The point I was making is that a lot of key moments happen off screen in FFXV. A lot of people are defending this saying it will be included in DLC.
I guess I'm :flabbynsick:for expecting my games to ship complete, or at least complete enough to not feel like chunks are missing.

The build up is one thing, but your analogy is still fundamentally flawed dawg. No question about it, lol. Also, you brought up the comparison first re: FF7.

This game actually has quite a few nods towards plenty of the older games, but yeah, they definitely could've developed some of the story and side characters better for sure.

The fact that you had to read that somewhere else to understand that sums up my point about this game

Ehhh...not really. There has always been a lot of convolution and confusion in quite a bit of FF games, to the point where some had to read about it outside of the games for more complete explanations (and/or theories) for a variety of reasons. As stated, a grip of stuff is hinted at or stated in most of these games (this one included), but they (FF games) all tend to have confusing elements to them at times.

That shouldn't have been the case in 2016, especially with what we've seen already as far as voice acting and CG in other games.
Like I said, this game is going to be very polarizing. It has a ton of great things and a ton of bad things.
It's going to depend on each person's personal enjoyment how much they can overlook the bad. I said before, my major draw in gaming is story, so I couldn't overlook the mistakes they made on that front.
This game shines the most in terms of graphics, but as far as what I personally look for in a game, graphics are pretty low on the list.

Word.

I will say that as much as what I took away from the game and what did work for me vs. what didn't, it is quite annoying to know that potentially this game could've been even more grande on so many levels and that the whole development hell took its toll on it undeniably.
