The only hard and fast rule is especially egregious shyt, like a show when it's airing and/or a big movie opening weekend. Or, a new game I guess. If it's story heavy.

If you played the game, the ending implies that anything can happen going forward. The plot was basically about breaking away from the original.

What makes you think I haven't? I've been entangled in everything Final Fantasy 7 since forever. I am telling you that what is in the "On the Way to a Smile" book ties directly into the plot of Remake and Rebirth. Even in death, Sephiroth's hate for Cloud is intense and his spirit is manipulating things from inside lifestream to do some timey wimey shyt.
