Then I guess you should look at my list again when you're at home. :ducreux2:

What did you like so much about A Bigger Splash?

I thought it was incredibly well written in the way it focuses on the brooding (sexual) tension between the characters. It broods and it broods until it is hard to imagine that nothing might have happened, despite the fact you rarely see what actually happens between them. It plays well into the assumptions and accusations characters make, and it works because those accusations especially are often more revealing about what they think than anything you are actually shown. The acting is incredible with career high performances by Fiennes and Swinton and despite being outrageously bold and on the nose in some parts, it also manages to be incredibly subtle.

I liked the third act far more than the first and second. I actually had forgotten that I saw it until I saw it on your list. I agree that the sexual tension was thick between the main characters, and was explored in an interesting way. I also really liked Tilda's performance, as so much of it didn't involve verbal dialogue because of her throat surgery. I just can't seem to remember what I specifically wasn't feeling in the first act, aside from a lack of intensity that admittedly was intentional to build tension to explode in the climax.

I wanted to squeeze a few more films in but won't get the chance to before today. I'll probably end up watching Elle, The Lobster, 20th Century Women, Denial, Florence Foster Jenkins, and Hail Caesar within the next month or so. I didn't see enough foreign films, animated films, or documentaries, which is usually the case every year.

My favorite films of the year.
