but they could have in 2017 :heh: they had a bigger majority than the dems do now

All they wanted to do in 2017 was pass tax cuts for the rich and pack the court with far-right lunatics, both of which they could do with a simple majority. Anything else and Mitch was savvy enough to shield his caucus by not even bringing it to a vote because he knew it was unpopular.

can i ask a serious question; where was all of this talk in 2017 and 2018, when the filibuster was the only thing preventing the republicans from blasting through whatever they wanted? why weren't the dems saying "we need to get rid of this jim crow relic" in 2017? it was still a jim crow relic 3 years ago, wasnt it? :mindblown:

doesn't it look stupid for the democrats to just start saying this now? if they want to get rid of it because they're in the majority, then just have the balls to say it and own it

i mean you have some of these idiots like dikk durbin calling it racist when he was just fukking defending it in 2017 :mindblown: why was he defending it then?

They were defending it then cause Trump was advocating abolishing the filibuster. He had a huge fight with McConnell about it. Mitch knows their agenda is unpopular. And many of his caucus don’t have the balls to vote for stuff on the floor especially if you only need 51. They got killed for the tax cuts and failed ACA repeal.

Also, McConnell nuked the filibuster for SCOTUS with Gorsuch nomination.

as usual, it's not the actions but who's doing it/when done, is all that matters

Only a party that's confident that the current majority/minority count is not changing anytime soon, would support eliminating this
Only people that're complacent/compromised believes a perpetual single party majority is beneficial to citizens

Obama being elected president changed the game forever. Republicans came up with the tea party and it was all out warfare. Republicans don't really care about shyt outside of tax cuts for the rich and further enriching themselves. Past that all they want to do is obstruct everything else and keep the masses away from beneficial policies so they don't grow accustom to them like they did social security and Medicare. Obama was right to turn on it.

By the time social security becomes insolvent I'll be in my early 50s. I know I won't get it. What I'm saying is if a politician today came forward and said let's end it they would get destroyed.

It's impossible for me to care about these optics with the way Republicans just contradicted themselves on ACB and Garland. It's fair play now
