They didn’t remove it under trump when they had the chance to.Nothing will happen. Nothing ever really does anymore. The republicans do whatever it takes to get their agenda done. The democrats talk about decorum and all that bullshyt and do nothing then when the republicans take action the democrats cry about it.
Ask yourself if the filibuster was in the republicans way would they even hesitate to remove it?
Was it something their party wanted removed? No. The republicans need it more than the democrats. They didn’t remove it under trump when they had the chance to.
This thread is a decade old the Dems are still playing around
Getting rid of the filibuster would be the biggest mistake Dems could make.
I have zero confidence in their ability to wield power. And even less in their ability to stop Republicans from wielding power.
Leave the filibuster alone.
How should they get these voting rights bills down then? Carve out?
I would have given voting rights the same energy that got wasted negotiating with Manchin and Sinema all of last year and folded it into the infrastructure bill (assuming that isn’t a procedural violation).
Voting rights & holding the people involved with January 6th accountable should have been at the top of the agenda. And it should have been messaged relentlessly.
What makes you think they’re passing anything at this point in the election cycle as we head in to the midterm?
I don't think anything is passing at this point. This Congress is probably done beyond routine votes. Schumer is just trying to appear busy with this filibuster and voting rights drama.
They’d be more active for sure. The Dems in the House have passed a lot of bills. But needing 60 votes in the Senate to proceed is the problem.Do you think Congress would be more active if filibuster reform goes through? Would it extend the legislative window or are we at the mercy of the midterm/ presidential election schedule.
