Trust, I'm an OG Rock fan. I remember when I was the ONLY kid in school who liked the Rock in late 97 early 98.

The reality is, Austin being the top guy allowed the Rocks character to grow & progress naturally & with no pressure until it was time for them to feud in 99.

that's the stupidest thing possible. It allowed for the Rock to grow? HAHAHA....no..the WWF wanted Rock to be Rocky Maivia and a pretty boy smilie b*stard. That's what they naturally had planned for our mixed Samoan/Black friend. The Rock TOOK his position by 99..they got behind the Rock in 98 with the heel run and the heel turn but clearly they wanted to bring him down some notches post Backlash 99 and go full throttle with Austin and HHH. But as the ratings proved, the Rock outdrew Austin in 99 and they had NO CHOICE but to insert him right back in the top spot by Unforgiven 99.

I dunno breh. Everyone who comes before a wrestler helps keep the lights on til it's their time. Without Terry there would be no Bret, without Bret, no Austin. If Austin didn't blow up in 98, I don't doubt Rock would have had his shine, but it wouldn't have been on as big of a platform

That's like saying if Tyson didn't get hired, Austin would of never been who he was by WM 14. Just semantics and whining from a lesser wrestling fan mindset. No matter what, the fans didn't have to get into the Rock or make him a star. So all that "allowing or being put a position set by a whole different character's fanbase" makes no sense. He should of fell off as soon as Austin got injured if Austin was what "allowed him" to become a star and all of that rhetoric.

No I agree with that. I just don't think that's enough to say that without Austin, there wouldn't be a Rock. I think when you start getting into wording like that it becomes a little silly. You can say that for just about every wrestler if you dig deep enough.
