This paragraph from a CNN obituary says it all to me.

The exile community in Florida, along with the US politicians who capitulated to their will all these years are equally responsible along with Castro, possibly more so than Castro for that island's plight. Take the embargo away it's possible he might have been more willing to play ball after initially not going along with traditional US fukkery. At any rate, why those in Florida would do everything in their power to fukk over their people back home in a piss poor attempt to isolate Castro was not only a failure politically and socially, but also morally.
