@Say it Wit Ya Chest
1) i am 100% with those people too. in all seriousness, i listen, read, pay attention, and attempt to express empathy for those dealing with this struggle every day. what would you suggest i do instead?
2) the suburbs are america's new poor communities. there has been a growing trend over the last 15-20 years of wealthy americans, more often than not white, moving into cities and poor people who once inhabited urban areas being displaced to outlying suburbs where they do not have access to city services, food options, public transit and more. in my mind that doesn't show much of an improvement, it shows a colossal detriment, suburbs or not. the same thing has been going on in europe for over 100 years. look at paris for example. i do not know the geography of missouri very well so please forgive my ignorance in thinking ferguson was an outlying area of st. louis.
3) if people see me as part of the problem that is fine, but i am in my office at work and not in ferguson, MO. would you like me to take some time off of work and fly there to... i don't know, stand around? i don't really have any vacation time left this week. i am not watching anything like "a movie" and honestly i am a little insulted by the insinuation. are you saying i don't care? i do a lot of work in my community for all walks of life, black, white, LGBT, straight, etc. i treat people with respect. i supply my dollars to companies that i think are doing the right thing to our earth and its human inhabitants. i try to do everything i can to avoid interaction with the american government and law enforcement when possible. do you want me to stop being a white male? because i can't.
4) if you want me to say whether i think black protestors should be tearing up white communities instead of their own? sure. go to the neighborhood with the country clubs. start with those fukkers first.
i am just a homeowner in a mixed neighborhood that wants people to love each other and be happy. i don't really have much else to input.
finally it took you @'ing me because as someone who is not part of the black experience, why would you want to hear my opinion. the #1 problem with white males in general is that we don't listen to the experiences, thoughts, and feelings of other marginalized people. we talk over them. we inject our thoughts and our opinions. and that IS NOT RIGHT. to be an ally, you LISTEN. you READ. you try to UNDERSTAND where someone is coming from. no one needs my opinion. the reason you got it is because you asked for it.
