A 3-year-old boy told a St. Louis County police officer at a traffic stop where he could find his dad's hidden gun.
The boy was in his father's car last spring at Acme and Minnie avenues in north St. Louis County, near Chambers and Halls Ferry roads. An officer noticed the car had incorrect license plates and pulled behind the parked car.
He saw the man in the driver's seat — Patrick Dwayne Durant, 24 — look around and lean his shoulders forward toward the dashboard for several seconds, police say.
The officer got out to talk with Durant. According to court papers describing the March 24 arrest, Durant "appeared to be extremely nervous" and admitted he had active warrants out for his arrest.
Durant's son was in the front seat and told the officer there was a gun hidden behind an empty compartment under the radio. Police say they found a loaded, .38-caliber semiautomatic handgun there.
