I dont think he's going for 50. I think he'll retire after the next 2 fights.

Happens all the time (fighters jumping from 1 division to another and fighting for the title in their 1st fight there). Floyd did it with Zab Judah, Cotto just did it with Sergio, etc...unless you mean jumping up 2 divisions from 135 to 147 to win the belt. That's only reserved for the All-Time Legends......Henry Armstrong and Adrien Broner:mjpls:

He was ranked #6 prior to fighting Paulie or even talking about it. He received that ranking after dominating Antonio DeMarco.

Are you on record in here saying Maidana was gonna beat Broner? Nobody but @Mook and another poster was riding with Maidana in that fight that I remember, and they were severely out numbered by people thinking Broner would win:yeshrug:

Of course, AB's a Floyd stan:manny:

Nah, I disagree. Firstly, Maidana WAS listed on the poll: http://ringtv.craveonline.com/news/179421-ringtvcom-poll-fans-want-broner-to-fight-matthysse

The winner was Lucas Matthysse. Marcos Maidana finished with the 2nd most votes. Danny Garcia finished with the 3rd most votes. Keith Thurman, Robert Guerrero, Kell Brook, Andre Berto, Jesus Soto-Karass, and Diego Chaves all finished tied with less than 10% of the votes. Lucas Matthysse and Danny Garcia were already scheduled to fight on Floyd's undercard, plus they were at 140 and Broner was at 147, which meant Marcos Maidana was the winner.

Marcos Maidana was also Paulie Malignaggi's mandatory defense for the WBA Championship, and when Paulie side stepped him for Adrien Broner, Marcos Maidana was ALSO named the automatic first defense for whoever won the belt between Broner and Paulie. Broner won, Maidana finished 2nd in votes plus was the mandatory to keep the belt....made perfect sense and was the perfect storm.

you damn right i did :smugfavre:

Theres no reason whatsoever for AB to be getting a title shot at WW coming from 135.. Just a smack in the face to all the current WWs who had been putting in work.. AB had no buisness at 147 and the fact that he's no longer there proves it
He was ranked #6 prior to fighting Paulie or even talking about it. He received that ranking after dominating Antonio DeMarco.
You're absolutely right.. he was ranked for the work he put in at lightweight and below.. which was impressive because of how great he performed. . :patrice: but not impressive because, aside from Demarco they were all laundramat worker

Are you on record in here saying Maidana was gonna beat Broner? Nobody but @Mook and another poster was riding with Maidana in that fight that I remember, and they were severely out numbered by people thinking Broner would win:yeshrug:
AB at 147 never sat well me.. And personally, I couldn't even make prediction on his fight with Pauli or Maidana.. I rooted for him both times but after seeing him barely beat Pauli bum ass was a red flag... Its like, I knew Maidana fukking sucks (which is why it was 5-1) but I couldn't predict if he would be better adjusted to the size and power of the guys at the bigger weights, especially since all he fought was Pauli

You right, had completely slipped my mind that LM had already had eyes set on Garcia and wasn't going anywhere until after that fight..
I just dont understand how WBA allows Pauli to ss Maidana and fight a nikka coming from 135 as his 1st title defense.. It makes no sense..

Takeaways from the fight.

1. Floyd respected Maidana's punch power from both hands.
2. Floyd gets rattled by stupid shyt from Maidana. I do think that caused some hesitation from Floyd. He didn't know if he was fighting Marcos Maidana or Thunderlips from Rocky.
3. Floyd made it a boring fight like I knew he would. Baldomir 2 was about right.
4. Marcos has a confusing style and Robert Garcia has developed him well.
5. Floyd has slowed but is still ahead of everyone else.
6. Floyd will make it to 49-0 comfortably as long as his jab to the solar plexus and lead right works as it does now.
7. Floyd will never get one shotted and put on his ass with lights out. Great beard behind the defense.
8. He looked bored with boxing or Maidana or both. I'm thinking a bit of both. It is purely a business now to him and his dedication to fitness is what keeps him where he is.
9. For a 37 year old man, Floyd looked fukking amazing. Roach has been calling for Floyd's legs to be gone for 5 years. Not quite yet Freddie.
10. He looked great, but not up to his standards. I don't know if it is the styles makes fights or if its his slowing down. I'm guessing both. He's 1997-1998 Michael Jordan now as far as skills and abilities.
11. Round 2 was a beautiful round from Floyd.

You said it all breh. On one hand it's impressive how sharp & lively Floyd still is at his age. But on the otherhand, Floyd didn't seem all the way into the fight either. He definitely didn't come to the fight with the intent of putting on a great performance. He just did what he had to do to get the win and get out of there. I love Floyd's fighting style and don't mind at all his defense and movement, but I also need dude to dominate offensively if nikkas gonna be out here paying $70 per fight.

I think Floyd Sr is starting to rub off on him in a negative way. Bring Roger back for that offensive aggressiveness we love seeing from Floyd.

I wouldn't bet on anyone against him... but he looked off on Saturday. Maybe he over-trained and had nothing left or his highly nutritional diet (McDonalds) failed him.

Why won't this man eat properly?
That's the biggest difference between him and hopkins IMO. And why I don't think floyd will fight until he's older although I'm sure he could if he wanted to

H said he had a special fight planned in may, this pac shyt is detox status at this point for whatever reason

hopkins is crazy enough to drop down to 160 he already said he would do it, plus it would be his biggest pay day

floyd's beat all the guys, if porter didn't just lose, would say he was next in line of this strength of his victories

Thurman needs to be a guy on his level first to garner the fight like maidana took out broner

FLoyd isn't coming up to 160...that B Hop fight is a pipe dream unless Bhop comes to 154

A. I thinks he needs to make more money to even try to maintain his lifestyle for a reasonable amount of tim
B. If he retires with out finishing his countract after a fight where he didnt look spectacular its gonna look like hes ducking a loss and he dont want that

A) you know he owns Mayweather promotions, he should be set after retirement - if he does what golden boy is doing.

We've already came to the conclusion that he's had a HOF career:ahh:

Theres no reason whatsoever for AB to be getting a title shot at WW coming from 135.. Just a smack in the face to all the current WWs who had been putting in work..

Paulie was looking to make the most money and none of them other nikkas represented $$$ signs for him. He felt he could beat AB and that it was for the highest payday. Let's go over the WBA rankings as of June 2013:

1) Diego Chaves was the Interim Champion and the mandatory....no money.
2) Marcos Maidana...no money
3) Ed Paredes....who?:mjlol:
4) Keith Thurman....Paulie turned him down, because he said he was "a nobody" at that time.
5) Shane Mosley...:comeon:

Jessie Vargas was ranked 6th, Luis Carlos Abregu was 8th, Senchenko was 11th, and Shawn Porter was ranked 13th:camby:

Adrien Broner was easily the best name and money available for him:yeshrug:

AB had no buisness at 147 and the fact that he's no longer there proves it

Hindsight is always 20/20. Oscar De La Hoya had no business trying to fight Pacquiao at Welterweight, because he was a full-fledged JMW, but nobody was saying that either before they fought. You can always look back and say something, but nobody was saying that Maidana was gonna win....not even you breh.

You're absolutely right.. he was ranked for the work he put in at lightweight and below.. which was impressive because of how great he performed. . :patrice: but not impressive because, aside from Demarco they were all laundramat worker

You say that now...again in hindsight...but the rankings at the time of the fights, which he's fought guys MUCH higher ranked than Thurman has ever fough since you always bring up Chaves and Soto-Karass, says otherwise.

Paulie Malignaggi was the Current WBA Champion at 147 and ranked #4 Welterweight by RING
Gavin Rees was a former WBA Champion at 135, and ranked #1 by WBC, #2 by WBA, #5 by WBO, and #6 by RING at 135
Antonio DeMarco was the WBC and RING ranked #1 at 135
Vincente Escobedo was ranked #1 by WBO
Eloy Perez was ranked #1 by WBO and ranked #9 by RING at 130
Vincente Rodriguez was ranked #6 by WBO at 130
Jason Litzau was ranked #2 by the WBA, #3 by the IBF, #4 by the WBC, #7 by the WBO, and ranked #9 by RING at 130

He also fought former Champion Daniel Ponce De Leon as well, but they were laundromat workers though:rudy:

From my count, his last 7 fights before fighting Maidana was against high ranked opponents in his divisions.

That doesnt change the fact that it was still a great win for Maidana.

And you were also of the belief that Floyd was scared of AB, which is why he was a "big brother" to him. So if you thought he couldnt beat Paulie like you thought he could, how could you expect him to hang with Floyd:manny:

You right, had completely slipped my mind that LM had already had eyes set on Garcia and wasn't going anywhere until after that fight..
I just dont understand how WBA allows Pauli to ss Maidana and fight a nikka coming from 135 as his 1st title defense.. It makes no sense..

Paulie picked a voluntary defense against AB who announced his intentions to move to 147 and challenge Paulie...which is why AB had to vacate his belt at 135. Money is the main reason why Paulie took the fight.

watching it live I felt he was just trolling...but now I feel floyd just didn't wanna take any chances at all. he probably felt maidana would come out swinging for the fences all 3 minutes and he didn't wanna fukk around and get caught with something wild. no matter what he says he knows damn well maidana is the hardest puncher he's fought. dude can even hurt you with grazing punches. at that point floyd had already taken some good lumps...prolly didn't wanna give maidana an opportunity to land a lucky shot. can't really hate on that though. much bigger money fights out there waiting for him to get it all taken away in the 12th round of a fight he pretty much swept.

How was the atmosphere for the fight?
