Aye cuz I should’ve been a damn tape editor as much cutting and slicing I did back in the 80’s but that’s what we had to do to enjoy and listen to that dope azz mix tape that we either made or recorded off of whatever hip hop mix show that was either going on that Saturday morning or that Saturday night! Definitely a beautiful and memorable time in my life.... Thanx for the memories cuz, U a ill nikka for that one and uve just been ILLMORTALIZED!

Golden Era shyt at its finest.:banderas:

No doubt, thank you. You know the deal. It was literally like surgery, operating on something you cared about...almost like a human (tapes are better lol)

I respect you for fixing tapes. I could do simple fixes - but when alot of that tape ran off that spool it frustrated me.

If it did get fixed that was on some big achievement steez.

I had my time with tapes - late 80s to around 2004.

I feel that New York rap fans who taped off Stretch and Bobbito really had something else.

To hear those shows lives must have been such a blessing.

I wonder what other radio stations in different states and provinces popped off?

Toronto had 89.5FM, 105.5FM, AM 640, 680AM.

I know about Stretch and Bob WCKR I believe.

LA had Sway and Tech.

Then Hot 97 in New York was I assume more popular Hop Hop?

I wonder what was popping in Texas, Atlanta, Miami, Baton Rouge, New Orleans?

Did any of you have any coveted mixtapes (yes real mixtapes) that you still have or got messed up?

I was lucky to have a boy who bought all the dope indie vinyl from 97-2001.

Jugganots, Finsta Bundy, Killah Priest singles.

I have one tape still that's good.

But one - had rare Kool Keith - Da Beat terrorists on it. Also my boy would blend different beats to other vocals but did it right. So his mixes were dope.

I don't even think I leant it out. I may have left it at my boy's apartment.

Dude had it and listened to it for months. I finally got it back and it just didn't work.

I tried to repair it. Put it in another case. Didn't work.

I was freaked out by that cause it was THEE tape.

I forgave my boy. Tried to remember what was on it. Etc

I’ve definitely still got a box of mid 90’s Clue tapes in my closet

These was my go-to.
I got a boom box for Christmas when I was 7 years old and I was addicted.
I would make tapes all day off the radio or CDs.
My uncle was a DJ and I would take his tapes and tape over them shyts... but eventually he caught on :russ:

So I started going to Rite-Aid and stealing tapes... weekly
:snoop:

this is what I had mostly. They were cheap at Kmart in packs so could dub off the homie around the corner who’s parents didn’t care about buying him Doggystyle and shyt like that. I wasn’t “allowed” to buy that shyt til I was spending my own money.

for real...it’s like nikkas is finding new and creative ways to indirectly shyt on me for throwing out my tape collection :picard:
Ay! near the end of the 90s I was printing out the album covers and making them tape size just so I could have the real cover in there. If I had ANY drawling ability I would have done that but I can’t tag or paint or draw for shyt :russ:

I'm in the process of digitising a lot of old cassette's that have interviews, freestyles etc taped off BBC Radio 1 Westwood shows. Anger Management Tour stuff where they all dropped by, A few hours of stuff from when Westwood was in NY and was broadcasting from Sylvie's Soul Food restaurant and loads of artists were just turning up and having fun, Talib Kweli & Coolio discussing the Em/Benzino beef.

Haven't gone through it all yet but I'll no doubt be uploading it at some point this year.

I remember going to a local AV 'specialist' shop to try get some C120's & C!80's so I could get more of the shows on each side without missing parts. The owners were adamant that such tapes didn't exist. This was years before I could have just whipped out the phone and proved it in seconds with the internet!

Worth remembering that Cassettes are making a bit of a comeback and as such prices are rising. I was going through stuff and came across Aaliyah's We Need A Resolution single. Current Discogs price has it at £25 (Around $35).
