States' rights was a highly debated subject in the founding of the Republic. It certainly played into issues regarding constitutional litigation until this day. The fact that racists and conservatives have hijacked the term doesn't mean the concept isn't valid.

Many of the posters here are advocating for states' rights when it comes to cannabis and the recent new state laws. Are we racist?

What are their other positions?

Do they include separate water fountains for coloured's?

I'm all ears

According to some posters here, anyone bringing up states' rights are automatically racist.

Seems like code for "hang all the ******s and shoot all the spics to me".

You might not be on board that way but a lot of people who aim for state rights are trying to circumvent good federal laws.

Like I said, the term has been hijacked but the concept and debate behind it (states' rights) is still valid. The fact that you hear civil war reenactors, racists and GOP race fuelers use the term doesn't mean that there relative and important issues that need to be discussed involving states' rights.

I don't know. Maybe it's just me, but when fat girls hijacked the word "thick" I used to belove, I altogether just dropped the term from my vocabulary due to their abuse.

Maybe you should adopt that stance instead of blaming those who see the term "States Rights" and feel other than you.

We all understand that States rights' and state government, local government and all that is important. We're talking about why the GOP hugs it tight and uses it as part of their platform. And their two main beefs are The New Deal and civil rights

It's the same way nobody wants "activist judges" but the reason the GOP keeps saying that is because of Roe v Wade and the way the interstate commerce clause is used in civil rights and business regulation issues

I'm talking about more than the term, maybe I wasn't clear enough.

You are lock step with a bunch of knuckle dragging racists who have the same goal as you although for different reasons. When you achieve your goal they achieve their's. And there are probably a lot more of "them" than "you". How does that make you feel? How does that make your cause look?

Nah, I'm cool. The term and concept has been used and argued for 2 and a half centuries. If you want to brand everyone who uses the term a racist that's on you.

People always point to the civil war and southern states using states' rights yet forgot that Northern states passed laws banning slavery before the Federal Government did. That is also states' rights.

Need to get rid of local government especially villages/towns/hamlets cities that overlap its extremely redundant. Then start working back towards the state government. You have no idea how much overlap and bullshyt bureaucracy there is.

I wonder if we could get rid of states?
