It's amazing how cemented his strategy is to the American psyche 30+ years later that it's not even given a second thought.

damn I had no idea there was audio of this!!! !!! !! !

I told you "states rights" was tied into the civil rights stuff and wasn't purely about states rights

let's be reality, when the GOP says "less government" it's a code word for "less civil rights oversight and fewer social services". Al Gore actually streamlined government while everyone else has been enlarging it in other areas.

No doubt it is.

"states rights" is shrouded in racism.

Reb you mind breaking down the video for me? I'm at work and can't view YouTube.

I'm here at my desk listening to angry co-workers bytch about Obama. I'm loving it right now.

:myman:

Well, Lee Atwater was a GOP consultant prior to Reagan's first Presidency. Basically he acknowledged that blatant racism had evolved to coded messages such as "States Rights" and cutting taxes, and using that racial coding to drum up the support of Southern white voters.

It was so naked in its honesty, I involuntarily shed a tear.

The I in Team
To this day I bring his name up as a reason why I refuse to vote republican. The southern strategy employed to this day is nothing more than a no nikka policy :mjpls:

atwater was a genius, fathered rove's style

RIP

Crazy thing was while Atwater was devising ways with Reagan to hold the black man down he would be playing jazz with all the top musicians (bb king, isaac Hayes, Sam moore). Maybe that's why when he was on his death bed and satan was calling him home, he felt the need to apolozige for his sins:

Gravely Ill, Atwater Offers Apology - NYTimes.com

Bottom line is Lee Atwater was an evil man who used racism to win votes. It wasn't until he was about to die that he felt the need to repent for those sins. Thankfully these past elections taught us that the southern strategy is a relic to the past and no longer works. fukk that cac and all who support people like him
