The problem is that some women(not all) are selfish.Some women have no interest in being with someone who makes less money even if that person makes good money in a highly skilled trade.And the women who do date down(hate that phrase) expects the man to pay for 50% of everything.Financial contribution in a relationship should be based on your percentage of the total household income.If the total household income is 150k,and the man makes 45k which would be 30%,he should pay for 30% of the household expenses.
Some reasons why relationships where the woman makes more than the man fail:
Women:
1.Expects the man to pay for 50% of everything.
2.Everytime there's a disagreement they Belittle the man for making less money.
3.When there's not enough money to buy a big ticket item(home,car) they blame the man for not making more money.
Men:
1.Insecure that his woman has a higher income.
2.Cheats on his woman to feel more like a man.
3.Constantly in fear that his woman is going to leave him for a man who makes more money

the thing in all this is when men where up they dated down. Now that society has changed and women are up they gonna down on the man cause he makes less than her all while still claiming to want equal rights and equal play. 
Good thing I make more money than all the bytches in my area pretty muchI'm not seeing that. No one is talking about the bum with no prospects and aspirations in life. What's happening is you jumping to extremes so that you can argue that women will end up with trash if they don't aim higher.
You think people can be great single parents; they would be better parents with a supportive husband or wife in the equation. Facts: children cost money and children require time, money requires time. A single parent is more than likely going to struggle to provide for their child and meet their emotional needs. Again, do you think women sit down and think "I want to be a single mother"?
I don't think anyone should have to date down but it is nice to see that materialism at play. Is a man dating a woman who earns less than him, dating down? And I don't believe women should have to lower their standards but when they're not getting what they want out of life, it would be pragmatic to assess their standards against reality.

Newsflash: Most hoes aren't happy period, regardless of the situation. Making more than a woman just allows for attraction and delays her inevitable complaining about whatever she'll choose to complain about anyway.
I have quite a few friends who are making six figures whose girlfriends and wives still aren't happy because "Oh you should spend more time with me" or "Why can't we live near my friends and parents. Why do we have to move for this job?", or "Why do you work so much?" etc, etc, etc. But hey, these chicks got their "catches" and are "successful" in relationship / marriage situations on paper.
On the other end, I have a lot of female friends who complain about how the guys they find aren't ambitious enough, make less money than them, etc. "I love him, but it aggravates me that he's content in a little $70k job" <--verbatim what a female friend who makes $75k said about her fiance.
These female friends and the GFs / wives of my breh friends aren't that different, they're just in different situations. There will ALWAYS be something with these hoes unless you're a Christian Grey fantasy (worth $$$, built, yet still somehow able to put a chick at the epicenter of your life at most all times without coming across like a harmless simp), so do you. Make $ because it makes you happy and you can treat yourself, not because you wanna trick off on some chick who will be ungrateful down the line anyway.

I wouldn't necessarily blame urbanization. Black Americans have always held a significant population in urban centers as most in the States are port cities; NYC families had the largest slaveholding population in the early 1700s, only second to Charleston, South Carolina. The Great Migration just brought in more Southerners to the Northern and Western regions en masse.

That's incorrect. After emancipation women worked as domestics; cooking, washing, and mending clothes and occasional farmers. Please review the Freedman's Bureau for pension petition records . They are available in National Archives.
