Would fire everyone in that building who wanted to sign him to that deal and draft Penix Jr. They could have just drafted the breh and gotten a bridge QB. Yea, you may have a losing season, but you set yourself up for the future. We all thought this move was retarded.

The leverage of working out a deal with Cousin to help waive his no trade clause. Yeah that leverage.

By drafting Penix from the jump and benching him and pissing him off in the process, they're essentially at the mercy of whatever Cousins says. I wouldn't blame him in the slightest if he didn't do them a favor by helping them out.
I think they were prepping themselves for the
Is by drafting penix Jr. I knew it wouldn’t work out

He's only due 27.5 next year so it's not that massive an amount hanging over them. It's the 62.5 he got this year that's inexcusable. The contract should've been back not front loaded. He's coming off a major injury so back loading non guaranteed years would've protected them.

If Penix pans out and they somehow get into the playoffs this season then it doesn't matter to anyone but Arthur Blank. I don't know enough about their GM to judge the job he's done aside from signing Cousins.

I think if they didn't sign Cousins and everyone knew they were going QB it's possible a team might have leap frogged them for Penix.

Raiders would've moved up to 7 and stole him. Atlanta could've pick swapped to 7 with the Titans to prevent that though but the Raiders likely would've been giving up a bigger haul.

I still think the Cousins signing was to appease Blank and the GM and coaching staff took their guy in Penix.

It's not his really arm it's the Achilles, he doesn't generate much power from his lower half now. So yeah he may have been using more shoulder/arm to compensate and now it's shot. That injury is still pretty much the final nail in careers, it was crazy to give him that contract
I remember seeing this happen to Mark Brunnell in DC during the season. He went from throwing bombs to Santana Moss to floating ducks to Portis due to a calf injury.

It still was a bad decision.

This doesn't compare to the Russ situation at all. With the Falcons the current ownership did this. With Denver the team was sold after Russ was signed. The current Denver Broncos ownership got out from under what the previous ownership did.
