There needs to be a class action lawsuit. Facebook is one of the largest companies there are and it sets precedent. People saying that Black people need to carve their own lane, how can that happen when Black programmers and other employees can't get their feet wet and gain some pertinent experience. It's a systematic issue.

Most people, however, are not excellent... and cannot judge excellence, either. So whom are they going to hire and promote? People they think they can trust. People who are like them. This usually leads to the common dynamic of mediocrities who promote mediocrities based on cultural fit.


It's not something that most people will take the risk of talking about, but there is a lot more ethnic tribalism in software/IT than in other industries. It's variable by company and subsector, so I don't want to get specific because quite often "we" (meaning white men, my ethnic group) are the offnders, but there are a lot of ethnic games in the corporate world (especially when companies introduce "360 reviews" and stack ranking) that feel like a throwback to another time, and that exist not because people are inherently racist but as a reflection of what people do when they feel unsafe.


"Cultural fit" is often about homogeneity in background. As for age, that's a major factor because most founders want to exploit the unrealistic optimism of youth and the last thing they need is a 40-year-old programmer telling the younguns that the career path they've been promised (two years to an executive role, immediate investor contact, founder within five years, retired within eight) is almost certainly not going to arrive."

These three people have no evidence at all in their favor and this article does nothing to add to that lack of evidence. There is a right way to fix discrimination. Influencing hiring decisions at the largest companies on the planet is not one of them. I would argue that breaking up Facebook and Google into much smaller companies would do far more."

This is one of the reasons why I say don't be deceived by your 'liberal allies'. These tech companies will scream about LGBT all day and you can't criticize them at all, but the minute you start posting positive black things, you get banned and you can post stuff talking down on blacks all day. At best, these companies will give you the symbolic gestures of making a post about "Black Lives Matter", but never end up hiring any blacks.
Tech companies especially Facebook were lockstep with trump while he was in office. They’ve long since abandoned the facade that they’re anything other than right wing operations

People like to work with those that look like them and act like them. Look how black people are portrayed in the media... is it really a surprise.

But on the flip side imagine a floppy haired white nerd came to your place of work that's majority black people... you'd be like :gucci: and then proceed to hire that black person who you liked and listens to the same music and goes to the same spots as you... Humanbeings will be humanbeings. I dont get upset at shyt like this.

Just move on and be great somewhere else. Its their loss at the end of the day.
