Yeah I work in IT

FaceBook, Amazon, Netflix, Microsoft

I've been in the interview process with them and honsetly it boils down to luck of the draw as far as who actually gets in the door because everyone wants to work at these places. The time you'll spend jumping through all the hoops and waiting for them to follow up for the next steps, you could have been found a job for similar pay with possibly a more chill work environment. The most likely scenario is a "Thanks, but no thanks" rejection email for all that trouble. Not saying someone shouldnt apply if that's what they want to do. But I value my sanity, time and privacy and I could care less about the hype of working at one of these places

I also am cool with a few people who have worked at Amazon and Google and they describe the work culture as being just as toxic as working at a shyt hole such as CITI Bank, where I have actually worked, and is the finance sector's equivalent of a FAANG company. One of my acquaintances told me about how all these people scramble to get on with Google thinking it's going to be some paradise, and get caught up in the hype, but the actual work culture is unnecessarily stressful and totalitarian in alot of ways. My guy was big heated about Google forcing people back into the office because high ups "dont see the benefit of working from home". Also, micromanging etc. He's about to take a job at Dell or Lockheed and Martin soon to get aay from the bullshyt.

"Culture fit" usually means that the white boys usually like to have someone they can intimidate and emasculate.

Still remember going for a job interview for a film title designer. I was more than qualified but wanted more experience, my now ex set up the interview as she was working with a film producer at the company who told her they really needed someone to start quickly. All was going well and the recruiter and the manager all loved my online portfolio.

Turned up for the interview and the manager of my department was this white guy. I could see the on his face when he saw me and he gave me the weakest handshake. He told me more about the role and asked me if I really wanted to do this kind of work as it could be boring.

I could already tell that I wasn't getting this job. Went through the motions and got going.

Got told later by one of my white contacts that the guy is a notorious dikkhead who liked to shout and scream at his team and that I probably scared the shyt out of him as he probably felt he couldn't treat me that way.

Worked out in the end as I picked up tons of freelance work from production companies.

I started my career back in 1995 as System Admin right off the street with no experience because I was able to look the manager straight in the eye and let him know I was the man for the job. I had no certs, Just the will to work and pull myself up by the bootstraps. These freshers think they can just waltz in off the street with no experience and demand a good paying job because they have a few certs and held a Geek Squad job for 10 months. The entitlement I swear. You'd be lucky to work in a call center

Culture is an important thing within a company & should be respected.

I agree with the building our own shyt... but if we keeping it real, a company culture is created... born out of how the employees and employers go about meeting their goals... this culture fit excuse is just a dog whistle to exclude Black folks.

A good company looks for positive habits of mind, a solid resume, and the willingness to adapt to the merit- based culture that the company developed. This isn't about not liking white people, I could care less who likes me or not. Fact of the matter is that its unethical to discriminate against someone based on stereotypes attached to the color of their skin when they are fully qualified for the job. Its even worse when said company is toting itself as being inclusive to fill quotas while deliberately keeping a certain group at the bottom for no reason.

You act like black people can up and build competing tech startups at will.....with what capital?
