Western Digital 1 TB Passport

made weird sound last time I tried to open up files, heard spinning but drive was never recognized by pc

am i just out of luck or is there a fix?

thanks in advance

yes,I'm a dinosaur and prefer to archive things offline

I have the same shyt drive. I've had 2 fail me within a year or so. I stopped buying western Degital since. I have a couple of Toshiba and Seagtes that are still going. I lost a lot important things that were on there.

:ohhh:ok ... I have sum questionz ....

:jbhmm:do u prefer to keep ur external PLUGGED IN all the time or no ?

:jbhmm:how OLD wuz ur hardrive(s) when it finally failed ?

:jbhmm:when u hear the "clicking" noise , WILL U HAVE TIME to back-up ur files ?

I stopped keeping my HD's for my computer plugged in on a constant like I used to, but then again this laptop I've been moving way more than my last one since I take it to work/abroad with me and not use it for days on end, so I never had a chance to get complacent and leave 'em plugged in

My older ones, I kept plugged in all the time, especially the Mybook one that required it's own power source.

I honestly don't know how old they were, but I just know around the time they started clicking I wasn't as vigilant with taking off the information like I should have, but in this day and age of HD's being relatively cheap, I'd say back up your important shyt every 3,6 months just so that when you hear that dreaded click one day and you potentially

lose your shyt on THAT drive...you should have a backup of some sort.

Lost way too many killer programs and piff off of never having my shyt backed up and I don't trust these Computer Rollbacks to keep he covered either.

i wonder how much those things run these days

A decent one should set you back about 30-40.

Yes it’s still a way, a long shot but you can get all your illegal shyt and porn off of there by tossing that mf in the freezer but be advised, you’ll only have hours before it slips off into the abyss of hard drive heaven.

Other ways it to clone that mf asap (take it out the enclosure and copy it, see amazon) and lastly....pray that it works either way. Good luck

Damn, I got 2 WD easy store EHDs. :sadcam:

My 2 TB is going on 18 months. How long do these things usually last?

The easy stores have some of the best consumer drives in them (WD reds and whites that are rated for 24/7 NAS operation). Most people buy them up in droves to take them out of the enclosure and put them in file servers.

I’ve done this roughly 4 times and the drives are excellent. Can’t speak for the external hard drive enclosure though.
