Explain how to make Magneto work in the MCU without him being black or making it a period piece?

I feel you but Magneto was loosely based on one of the most important Black men in history, and hes always been a very eloquent, elegant well spoken kinda villain who you can sympathize for. Imagine the reaction Killmonger got, except Killmonger was a rash, emotional man-child. Magneto delivering lines about Mutant discrimination that could serve as a double entendre for Civil Right issue would be plus Singer already did his bit on LGBT rights when he used that as the metaphor for his X Men with the whole coming out themes. Bring it back to the essence Im here for it, you could even keep Prof. X white idc but a Black Magneto would be fire!!!

They're both Captain Marvel, but Monica Rambeau needs her own movie/show, stat. They could use her to introduce Blue Marvel as well.

Since the MCU borrowed heavily from the Ultimate comics just do the same for Magneto. Just be a mutant supremacist and not have his origins stem from the holocaust.

Scarlett Witch and Quiksilver are already in the MCU and I think because of that it'll make it harder to convince people that people look down on mutants

People are already terrified of Wanda (one that really has no idea of the extent of her power) and they don't even know what she is..let alone that there are others like her.

There is a big difference between The Avengers, a unit mostly made up of government approved human/humanoids who are enhanced by science/tech with awesome PR and people who are actually a different species, born with powers they didn't seek and probably can't control very well initially.

There is and will be a huge contrast with how they are seen by the masses, hence the the underlying themes of bigotry/racism.

Read the 80's run where they explained how he de-aged and took over from X.

While he's based on Malcom, I can't see how it would not involve his Holocaust origins.

What they can, should and probably will do rather than trying to start the NEW X-men series with 90+ year old Magneto (and X) is have similar motivations from a different event.

I've seen people suggest more recent genocides from world history as a means to make him non-white, which could work...but even better would be to create an event within the MCU continuity that could give a modern Magneto the same motivations, whether they decide to make him black or not.

- Eternals is going to set up the explanation for the largely dormant x-gene in humans.
- There is a mention of "Project Exodous" in IM2 that suggests that shield is aware of mutants and have may even made effort to hide them.
- Even if you disregard that theory, the "miracles" that are Wanda and her brother already exist..and had their mutations activated by interacting with an infinity stone.
- Wanda is going to lose her shyt in WandaVision, become a huge threat
- Anybody with dormant x-genes who were affected by the snap are liable to start manifesting powers that they can't control...some of them won't be good guys, innocents get hurt...

What you think happens then? Xenophobia, internment camps, experiments...pull from/continue the plot line from Civil War, roll the Sokovia Accords into the mutant registration act and let Magneto be born from that...shyt would get ugly real quick.

Magneto is a geneticist...he created a ultimate mutant once. He can look how he wants ala X Men Evolution.

- Magneto didn't start off as a holocaust survivor, that was retcon so the notion that you HAVE to stick to it is null and void really.
- Google Nick Fury and see and see how many depictions you see of him that look more like Sam Jackson than David Hasslehoff

I'm fine with him being black, it's one thing to say "demand the already black characters get movies", it's another to dismiss the fact that most of these legacy characters that are going to take priority were created in the 50's 60's, I don't see unique, modern day iterations of some of these characters being non-white as a real issue.

Plenty of ways to make it work.

His original MO was just mutant supremacy, not the holocaust, that's just the most popular iteration of the character.

The Eternals will explain why and how the x-gene has largely been dormant. The small population of mutants that have been around for a while won't be able to hide once there is an acceleration of mutations, probably due to the snap. Mutants will undoubtedly be getting rounded up, tortured, experimented on, you don't need to reach back to the holocaust or any other genocide to create a "Magneto".
