More of a personal belief. I just have never seen why anyone thought alot of the stuff was literal. It seems very clearly metaphorical, could go on forever with examples. But yes religion is a tool for control and has been forever. One of those you get what you’re looking for things. In the wrong hands, it’s dangerous.this is moving goal posts.
It was meant to he taken literally. Then as things slowly were dissected over time for not making sense with advancements in our understanding of the universe it became "metaphorical" and "not meant to be taken literally" to keep faith alive.

Thats his own prerogative it is a free country , i am religious and believe in the words personally but to each his own, i dont belief in forcing your beliefs down peoples throats.

GOAT novel, but i can't imagine believing in the magic tricks in there as a grown man 
you do realize the Bible nor Christ said when you pass you go directly to Heaven/Hell right? Judgment day has a purpose. This is largely influenced by other cultures and texts.
The same way Satan, the Antagonist, is never mentioned in the Bible. Only in a few places does "satan" appear, that satan is not the devilish lucifer/satan/ etc you'll find depictions of.
These ideas shifted a lot but I think all Christians should really study the beliefs of Christ and not the random retellings that have been diluted and b*stardized.
