The only reason I haven’t listen to Tyler’s album as much.

This album is just :wow:
Same for me, I haven’t heard any of Tyler’s yet. Maybe by this weekend I’ll be ready to listen to something other than Ev
Same as you guys. @subletteafterdark I think is with us too.

I came up for air and didn't listen for a few days, and had a crazy busy weekend. I listened again tonight and let it run the whole way through. It's dope now, because the first few days after the drop I was wanting to skip the 3 singles because I played them so much ahead of time. But now they've all kind of blended together.

Bear with me, but on some joints I'm even getting some Ka and Roc Marci vibes on the delivery...especially on Pardon Me. I don't know if it was intentional or not with the Animoss production there, but the calmness of Ev's delivery really hides that his rhyme patterns on that joint are fairly advanced and pretty damn impressive. I think @areohbee824 was saying that's his favorite joint on the album. The rhyme patterns on Lost In Time and Talking To The Audience are pretty intricate too. All Of That Said is one of the ones on here with a more typical Ev slow flow, but there's definitely less of those.

All the rhymes on the album are pretty conversational, but these are more advanced than usual. I've usually been able to start rapping along with the songs on his albums faster than on this one.

album is fire

Lost in time :wow:
:wow:At this point I think I'd rather hear Nottz produce a project for Ev more than anyone else. :hubie:

I love this album for the simple fact it is not a happy album. That everyday man rap album. I got Phonte Charity Starts At Home: vibes with this album, Not musically, but as far as subject matter that life sucks and we have to make the best out of it.

I had a close homie tell me don't write my life and write some happy shyt
Like...
What keeps me up at night is average
Like...
"you don't need to make it personal"
I took it personal
The words been irreversible, just spun it back
Thought to myself, "how dumb is that?"
Like...
Everything that comes to me ain't from my raps
Like...
What I cook up ain't that coke to crack
Tailor made suit
The coat I copped ain't off a rack
I'm Mr. Mom to anybody that's been keeping up
I stay busy or the demons'll be creeping up
My world is undone, my son'll soon be asking questions
Been rehearsing for the day I say, "Your Mama's In Heaven"
Hold the tears back, for you I shift my whole life
And grind till the gear's flat
I hope you hear that

No doubt. And he didn't let it be known until afterwards, but Charity Starts At Home was made during Phonte's divorce, which is why it sounded a little bit aggressive and sad in places.

I definitely like that Unlearning Volume 1 isn't depressing, though. I was expecting a depressing album given all he's been through, but it's mostly just melancholy bars here and there spread throughout the album. I actually feel kind of optimistic listening to this album.

I was thinking about how the 2nd verse starts on Where We Going From Here. He says "The first day in a while that I woke up on the right side of bed. It's not my choice. I decided instead."

:jbhmm:
At first I thought that sounded dumb, Because a choice and making a decision are kind of the same thing. But the more I thought about it, I realized he's not dumb enough to make an obvious mistake like that. So I think it means more, like...even if your life is in a bad place and you're not going to have a good day, you can still decide to wake up on the right side of the bed ahead of time, and not even think of another option.

I could be wrong though. :manny:

1st spin, I thought it was cool. I liked what I liked, the rest was OK. 2nd listen though?

Man. This is GOOOOOD.

Not a typical Ev album, but I think it might be his best work.

I'm sure there are still a couple songs I don't personally like that others do (the Conway track and the Boldy track for instance) but they're not bad, just not my taste.

No doubt people will say I'm bugging but to me, at this point, Evidence is easily the best white rapper ever to do it :yeshrug:

The joint with Conway was my least favorite on here during the first week, but on week 2 it's gotten doper to me. I think Conway's verse is a little bit average by his standards, but I bet the song will grow on you a little bit too. Same with the Boldy joint.
