Well that goes back to the NOI days where majority of the members were ex drug dealers, murderers, etc. Since Elijah was really the only prominent leader that preached to blacks to "send the cracker to the cemetery" if need be, a lot of us gravitated towards that during the time. And as these followers got old and started having children and grandchildren of their own, the offsprings become in gulf in that, especially during the time of when Warith took over. It's basically how each family passes down their set of believes to the next generations. Plus, a lot of brothers relate to the story of the Prophet Muhammad and find some form of discipline in the religion that they may not get in others. A lot of brothers and sisters use Islam as a crutch to stay on the righteous path although a lot of us fail to do so. That's our downfall because a lot of times, we wanna continue to play the street role and be a Muslim. But in reality, you either have to choose one or the other.

It's why I don't really rock with Farrakhan like that. When I found this shyt out and found out he was Malcolm's understudy I couldn't fukk wit em. But I could definitely see John Ali being an agent who's job it was to debacle the whole thing. fukked up all around.

I'll add on it. I've read a lot on it due to my paternal family coming from Sicily, I was fascinated by it for a short stint. Just completely savage, brutal people who were just extremely intelligent in business aspects and extortion.

Oh yeah, to compare any of the street life, or even Mafia, of the present day to back then is ridiculous. Those dudes had politicians, entertainers, judges, police and everything in their back pockets.
Even the Cartels around Central and South America don't have the influence they had back then. The Cartels have much more firepower and money, but not influence IMO.
did you know malcolm was still writing letters to Mr Muhammad copping pleas (no diss to malcolm) after and before he made Hajj.
