They not ignorant, they just have financial motivations because the fuel lobbies and automotive companies pay for them to keep things the way they are.
My city has subway tunnels that are half complete because they wanted people riding buses instead. easier to sell tires and fuel to bus companies than subways.
Damn they really destroyed KC.
Most cities and sprawling and built for cars …
It can only work in some places
Wellll I take Amtrak often as I live in NYC but am from the DC area. I went home 4x last year and I’d say out of the 8 total rides, about half experienced some delay. And they were at random times so I have to assume it’s a regular occurrence. Further the pricing is vastly inflated if bought close to trip/around the holidays. That being said once you’re on it tends to be a comfortable rideAmtrak >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This you?It’s not about history
People want to sit down & drive
They don’t want to use their legs
The other day I went to a store by foot & I bumped into an acquaintance. He noticed I was on foot & inquired.
I said I walked here, it’s like a 45 minute walk from home.
He freaked out, like FORTY FIVE MINUTES??????
he was telling me he would never walk that long.
People prefer comfort over very small minuscule effort!
How would you shop in bulk? Serious question.
places like IKEA rent these out for free when folks are shopping.
I don't think they need to make huge purchases often if stores are near by.
there are examples of people in north america doing it.

@bnew
None of those are big enough for the amount I buy. Some products I stock up for for months at a time and live far outside the city. I'm just saying.
