Sports are entertainment and most hockey fans don't mind it. Football has way more vicious hits, hell, look at the face mask that Aqil Talib did to save the touchdown and he almost ripped off the WRs head off, could have broke his neck very easily but it was seen as a smart play. Dirty but it's still part of the game.

Reason I ask if you've played is cause you've probably never been chirped called a ****** or black face, slashed, hit from behind, seen your star/best player get targeted, etc. The refs don't see/ call everything and with emotions running high a very physical sport, sometimes fighting is the best way to settle these situations once and for all in the game. Is it essential and needed? No but it's still apart of the game and it does serve a purpose.

I mentioned football because i think its hilarious that you dont need fighting in football yet you somehow do in hockey ?
Football is alot more physical and there are just as many cheapshots taken yet they hardly ever fight....

The pre planned fights are kind of corny and not necessary but people pay money to be entertained dude and many people are entertained by fights. This is part of the reason fighting still exists in hockey as well.

I don't see what edge a Baseball or Basketball player would get from fighting, they ain't in physical sports like that. Football maybe but those dudes are monsters and would probably kill each other.

I have two buddies in the AHL and playing overseas too what's your point? I grew up in Canada myself and played hockey most of my life. As a matter of fact, one of my buddies playing in Sweden said he wished there was fighting and more goons in his league because he wouldn't have to worry about cheap shots, slashing, getting punched, etc. All this happens in the heat of the moment during the game. Players target star players to try to injure them with cheap hits. If you have a goon on your team who will go after the other teams stars or straight up mash on the player targeting, all that stops. Why do you think Gretzky NEVER got hit? You've never played at a level high enough and you clearly don't understand the importance of good enforcers.

Ding ding ding we got some pussies in here. In hockey most of the time it's one on one or 5 on 5. In football it ends up being 100 person brawl usually instantly. Example that Memphis and Miami hurricane game a few years back. They were swinging helmets and shyt. I don't see the hockey dudes bashing each other with sticks or slicing throats with skates. How does fighting prevent dirty plays ? Dirty shyt happens despite fighting,if you want to curb people using there sticks get some referees and some front office people with some balls to officiate the game according to the rule book...Your argument doesnt make sense from the sheer standpoint the league itself is slowly eliminating fighting from the sport,so clearly the league front office dont agree you need fighting to keep the other stuff out the game...
