Also, you guys make it sound like these big clubs did this out of lack of competition in their respective domestic leagues. No, they did this because of the exact opposite – because there's too much competition in their domestic leagues and no absolute certainty to make the Champions League every year (aka where the big bucks are)

In the end we all want nothing more than to see the best teams in the world play against each other, which the ESL would not be offering. I'm not saying the current system of European football is perfect, but it sure as hell guarantees a better way of finding out who's the best team than a closed league consisting only of teams with big name recognition.

That's like playing a regular season in the NBA, but then giving only the Knicks, Celtics, Lakers and Bulls a chance to compete for the title because they're the biggest (money) markets.

Yeah, but right now it is still possible for Leicester to win the league. Even if it's just the 1 time out of a 100. That's what people'll be talking about in 50 years. That's what fuels the (ticket buying) fans of every club outside of the top 6 to renew their season tickets over and over again, and what fuels millions of fans to tune in every weekend. That's the beauty of football. No one will remember exactly when Chelsea won the league, but everyone remembers when Leicester did it.

And besides, there's way more to the league system than winning a championship. I realize that this is very difficult to understand for American sports fans (not meant as an insult, there's just a different upbringing.) If your team ever had to spend some time in a lower league – and then you're finally get promoted to the big league, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Yeah there’s more to winning a championship, I was a City fan growing up late 90s through the 2000s and understand the highs and lows that come even from being a mid table club. The Europa league right after the initial investment into the club was one of the most exciting sports moments I’d seen, Elano hitting the crossbar off a 30 yard free kick against Hamburg still etched in my head.

My point is the dream of the climb and reaching the level City have been able to reach seem to have never been further away without outside investment (Which coincidentally fans also hate and why I stopped watching religiously), local fans will likely always have the passion because of the sense of community, the Super League teams have benefitted from not needing the sense of community to succeed since they have the tv contracts and massive investment from their owners.

Its why I don’t think this is the death of football as many are suggesting, just another natural extension of a negative path that it’s been following for decades.

Another thought I just had: Those "big clubs", they are big because they‘re mostly know for, well, winning.

Like, you can lose in the quarter finals of the Champions League year in, year out and be fine because you‘re still mostly winning – both in your domestic league and the early stages of European competition. Sure, there are some dry spells and you won‘t win the domestic league every year, but you‘re still making the Top 4, which means a casual (overseas) fan can tune into one of your games and see you winning them ~80% of the time. Now, if you start focusing on playing only good teams in an ESL, you‘re bound to lose more often. Way more often. Doesn‘t that devalue your brand – and in the end the whole product? That can‘t be good for business.

Stop it bro, it’s only like this because UEFA is being p*ssy and threatening to ban these teams from their leagues for participating in this league

If this competition took place as friendlies during the summer like the ICC, UEFA wouldn’t give af and wouldn’t sway the FA’s to get involved with this. They are jus scared of losing champions league revenue to this league

This sounds exactly like it!

Not entirely. This comparable to some of those teams leaving but a couple not... The German teams and French teams aren't involved yet so it's not even all the best teams.

And this erases the potential for Cinderella teams...

Are the other leagues closing? Won't there still be domestic leagues and there teams playing. Just the big clubs have left?
