I stopped watching baseball seriously with the Ohtani bullshyt. If the Dodgers or Mets get Soto and defer his shyt like Ohtani I’ll permanently bush it.

Those deferments shouldn’t be allowed.
Dominicans ain't deferrin shyt.

We can't bytch about deferrals and then laugh at the Mets every July 1.
The money was always headed this way it just would've took another 5-10 years before teams got comfortable with it. The Ohtani anomaly accelerated shyt and now top players after are gonna push as close as they can to it. Like they should, can't blame the players, it's on teams to see through it

What's gonna end up happening if not for Soto then the next player, the team that signs him is easily going to have one of the worst contracts ever in sports. That dollar amount and production in the later years will offset anything you get from Soto being 26 for example. They can't pitch and hit like Ohtani, they won't move merch and get eyes like Ohtani, they won't have a country with money behind them like Ohtani. And country is probably underselling, Koreans fukk with him heavy too

Ohtani, the season he just had, and this WS win just made it so the Dodgers print money in the far east until the earth stops spinning. Long after he hangs it up LA will still make money off him and players over there that wanna play for the Dodgers just like he did. You can argue the 700 m's that way. Soto's just another great Dominican player, a dime a dozen. Completely impossible to recoup even a fraction of what Ohtani brings and for not just Soto but everybody.
Soto in NY is bulletproof from a money making standpoint. Soto right now is THAT GUY in DR baseball. The only other player who could come close in terms of marketability at the moment is Elly. He didn't turn into a bytch in the playoffs like our captain. That means something. The Dodgers are taking advantage of how much Japan loves them. The Mets got PR on lock with Lindor. From a marketing standpoint, keeping Soto long term will do the Yankees so many favors with DR baseball fans because many of em are still rockin with Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs, Jays.

Soto is the perfect storm. Other players are getting money sooner, but that's mostly off potential and getting deals that are team friendly long term (except for Wander Franco, lord). We don't see players like him as accomplished as he is enter the market this soon. Another player couldn't demand as much because they'd be older with less long term promise. You don't get to buy 8-10 years of someone's prime. With deals like this, even Ohtani's you're paying for it acknowledging the last half of the deal could be problematic.

That aint no damn steal lol

Juan gonna be unplayable in the field in 5 years or less. So for 7 years or more he will have to be your DH. Lowkey thats the only reason the Dodgers might not go after him with them having Ohtani at DH
And there is no way Juan Soto brings the business that Ohtani does. Ohtani sells merch amd brings an entire country with him. Hes Global.

Also Ohtani is a cy young caliber pitcher on top of being w 50/50 guy

Dodgers don't need him.

Why is your interest for baseball based on how players arrange their finances :mjlol:

Why? Deferments benefits both the franchise and player.

Because for teams who don’t have the finances to do shyt like that, it isn’t remotely fair. My interest in sports is seeing a level playing field and having more teams able to compete, including the ones I root for obviously. Pretty much only LA and NY teams can contemplate this 70 million deferment bullshyt.

If you want to have the guy play this season then his money should be paid this year.

The Dodgers probably got a full return on their contract investment at this point because of this.

The only other scenario that can possibly surpass this is Pat Mahomes signing with the Cowboys.
