True, but like FTBS pointed out, we don't have the same ethical restrictions that professional journalists do (not they always abide by them ), so we can get away with posting unsourced rumors. If they turn out to be false, there's no harm done. The same can't be said for ESPN.

Of course, the rush to be FIRST now is absurd. Honestly, unless you're breaking a story that NO ONE ELSE HAS or WILL break unless you do it (i.e. Watergate, etc)....then who really cares? If ESPN beats FoxSports by 15 seconds on a trade, does ANYONE remember that a day later? All it leads to is rumor mongering and a decrease in journalistic integrity.

There needs to be an explicit and understood difference between journalism and punditry...but ESPN (and honestly, most news programs anymore) are consistently making it harder and harder for the common (read: stupid) person to tell the difference.

I think the "race to be first" is something ESPN realizes it can no longer win, so they focus on the "race to be more outlandish and attention whoring"

Yea, it started on ps3 last year and it's an app. It's pretty much confirmed that it's gonna be back this year and probably available to purchase next weekend. I don't really fukk with 360s, but I'm pretty sure it's not on xbox.

We realize ESPN has a monopoly on sports media , right ? For over 20 years ESPN has been our sole source of sports information and news. Very rarely will I watch this B.S. , but I tuned in this morning only to see these motherfukkas working double time to repair "The rocket's" image. This guy is a fukkin steroid abuser but we're gonna have live pitch by bytch updates of his first game back on ESPN news ? The biggest name in biking history just got banned for life , there should be a full hour devoted to this , right ? Ive barely seen it mentioned. I knew it was bad when I saw an ESPN anchor reporting on how Evelyn Lozado found a receipt for a box of condoms when doing a story on Chad Johnson's arrest.What about their selective silence , and "do not report" memo after Roethlisberger's 2nd rape claim ? Alot of insidious racism and canonizing of unworthy athletes. I really think its time for a boycott of this racist ass propaganda machine.

I think ESPN is pretty much trash, but I don't really hold it against them too much. They've become such a titanic business that they've been forced to bow to the ratings. And they know that talking all-day about Tebow and Lebron sucks in the casual fan more than the higher-brow content that the "niche" networks can get away with.

I think they take it too far, and the First Take only serves to lower the level of discourse to a borderline-ignorant level, but I understand why they've gone so far that way. It sucks, but I get it
