I cancelled my cable a few months ago and I was planning on getting it back in Sept when football started. I thought not having ESPN was gonna be tough, but it's actually been refreshing. I gotta find a way to get ncaa football without cable now. I'm planning on getting the Sunday Ticket through ps3.

So basically, fukk espn. Life is good over here.

WHOA, Whoa...whoa

Did you just say you can get the sunday ticket via PS3? I know they offer an internet package. But PS3 has an app? What about the Xbox 360?

This site has honestly been a better source of sports news to me than ESPN.

There have been numerous stories posted on here and the old site before ESPN.

Sure, but my point is that they're coming from somewhere else, be it Yahoo. FoxSports, etc. The Coli/SOHH isn't breaking news.

ESPN and those other networks aren't anymore either. More shyt breaks on Twitter now then anywhere. Since nikkas on here don't have "journalist standards" to live up to it will often be on here faster.

True, but the people breaking the news on Twitter are, most of the time, employed by ESPN, Fox, Yahoo, CBS, etc.

I find more breaking news on twitter that makes its way on here before it hits ESPN, Yahoo and others.

Honestly, online users have a better feel for what's news than ESPN/Yahoo and other outlets.

So it's a bit of both this site being a filter as you say AND its users knowing a story before the big sites do

True, but like FTBS pointed out, we don't have the same ethical restrictions that professional journalists do (not they always abide by them ), so we can get away with posting unsourced rumors. If they turn out to be false, there's no harm done. The same can't be said for ESPN.

This is true but they have gotten their share of stories wrong too.
